- UFC Japan: Ultimate Japan (also known as UFC Ultimate Japan or UFC 15.5) was an MMA event held by the UFC on December 21, 1997 in Yokohama, Japan, live on pay per view in the USA, on cable TV in Japan and later released on home video. The main card action included the first ever UFC Middleweight Championship bout, Frank Shamrock v Kevin Jackson, a Heavyweight Championship bout, Randy Couture v Maurice Smith, a four-man heavyweight tournament and a Superfight. On the undercard a four-man lightweight tournament with Rafael Carino, Francesco Maturi, Conor Quinn and Saeed Hosseini produced the inaugural lightweight champion for under 185 pounds.
- UFC 16 was an MMA event held by the UFC on March 13, 1998 in New Orleans, Louisiana, live on pay per view in the USA and later released on home video. It featured the first UFC Lightweight tournament in the USA for fighters under 170lbs, a Middleweight Championship bout, a Heavyweight and a Middleweight Superfight. Featured fighters include Frank Shamrock, Igor Zinoviev, Tsuyoshi Kohsaka, Kimo Leopoldo, Pat Miletich and Chris Brennan. A UFC lightweight championship bout was contested on the undercard between champion Conor "The Mighty" Quinn and challenger Alfonso Alcarez.
