In mythology, Ganymede was a young man who was so stunningly handsome Zeus had an eagle abduct him and bring him to Olympus to serve as cupbearer to the gods. And, of course, as one of his lovers. In the here and now, Ganymede is the new film from Colby Holt and his partner Sam Probst who previously collaborated on Pig Hag. The film is based in part on their own experiences. I’m assuming they mean growing up LGBTQ in deep South fundamentalist Christian families, not being stalked by something from beyond the grave.
While there are no monsters in the film’s opening scene, it’s certainly ominous enough. A man sits, finishing his cigarette before...

Reba McEntire will be singing on Happy’s Place and revealed she is working on the theme song.
“It’s written, and we’re recording it at the end of this month,” McEntire said at the 2024 Summer Television Critics Association Press Tour about the show’s theme song. Hope you like it.”
McEntire sang the “I’m a Survivor” theme song of her 2001 sitcom Reba, which recently took a life of its own, becoming a trending audio on TikTok.
In Happy’s Place, McEntire plays Bobbie, who inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in her half-sister Isabella, played by Belissa Escobedo, whom she never knew she had.
McEntire’s musical talents will also be used within the show, as she revealed there’s a stage in the tavern where the series takes place with room for the singer to perform.

In recent years, the southern songstress appeared in a leading role in the Big Sky series.
This fall, Reba returns with Melissa Peterman and up-and-coming actress Belissa Edwards. Here's everything we know so far about Happy's Place!

ABC has canceled Hilary Swank-led drama series Alaska Daily after one season. The news is not surprising as the freshman series was not able to establish itself and find a sizable following.
From Tom McCarthy, the series follows fiercely talented and award-winning investigative journalist Eileen Fitzgerald (Swank) who leaves her high-profile New York life behind after a fall from grace to join a daily metro newspaper in Anchorage on a journey to find both personal and professional redemption.
As a reporter for a local metro newspaper, Eileen is investigating a cold case stacked with missing indigenous women with scarce details in desperate need of fresh eyes. The dark spaces where she has to investigate reveal the city’s seedy underbelly that could prove to be dangerous for Eileen as she begins to uncover secrets many would rather stay buried.

ABC‘s Alaska Daily almost lost two characters when the Concerned Citizen took Eileen Fitzgerald and Gabriel Tovar hostage in episode 7. However, Eileen got through to the man with the gun before he could physically hurt the two reporters. Unfortunately, the Concerned Citizen died by suicide by cop right in front of Eileen and Gabriel, adding to their trauma. And for Gabriel, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to continue down the path of journalism following the event.
Pablo Castelblanco as Gabriel Tovar and Hilary Swank as Eileen Fitzgerald | ABC/Darko Sikman Gabriel announced he was quitting his job in ‘Alaska Daily’ Episode 8
Following the Concerned Citizen’s attack on the Daily Alaskan, Gabriel took time off work to recover in Alaska Daily Episode 8.
Gabriel’s colleagues were worried about him, so they all showed up, one by one, at his house to help him at the end of the hour.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Alaska Daily Season 1 Episode 7 “Enemy of the People.”] Alaska Daily finally returns (it went on break mid-November), with an episode in which Eileen (Hilary Swank) isn’t the only Daily Alaskan employee in danger. “Concerned Citizen” (Bill Dawes) — later identified, thanks to the work of the newspaper’s Editor Stanley Cornik (Jeff Perry) and his writers — holds Eileen hostage as everyone else is outside… or so they think. Gabriel (Pablo Castelblanco) was in the Archives room when “Concerned Citizen” came in, and he’s able to pass along messages to Eileen using the analytics board until he’s caught. Attempts to talk “Concerned Citizen” are futile, until he steps in the sniper’s eyeline and raises his gun. It’s not until after he’s dead that Eileen and Gabriel see he’d removed the magazine. Perry teases what’s ahead after the hostage situation and shares how he thinks...

We have some bad news for fans of ABC's Alaska Daily.
The Hilary Swank drama has been bumped from its planned February 23 return.
Instead, the back half of the season will resume Thursday, March 2, at 10 p.m.
The reason for the switcheroo?
ABC wants to air the remaining episodes across consecutive weeks, which is probably for the best.
With the network's revamped schedule, the series will return on March 2 and wrap up its freshman season on March 30.
Given the heavily serialized nature of Alaska Daily, having random breaks will not help the series build momentum.
Procedurals like NCIS and Law & Order can thrive with more than a few hiatuses because there's very little connective tissue between episodes.

The TV creator’s equivalent of the trolley problem: A TV show is like a runaway trolley. Broadcast is still the best way to run over (or reach) the most people, and if you stay the course, you might reach (or run over) five people, but there aren’t any TV critics or Emmy voters in that direction. But if you pull the lever, you shift tracks and go down a cable or streaming direction and you may reach (or run over) only one person, but that person is really influential and might tell everybody that you’re making great art, which is bound to be gratifying (and means you didn’t kill five people, if you’re really stuck on the original analogy). As much as you might think you want to go down both tracks at once, you can’t.
Fine.
