Paula Weinstein, the veteran studio executive, two-time Emmy winner and producer on such projects as The Fabulous Baker Boys, The Perfect Storm, Analyze This and Grace and Frankie, died Monday. She was 78.
Weinstein died at her home in New York, her daughter, Hannah Rosenberg, told The Hollywood Reporter. No cause of death was revealed.
“The world is a lesser place without my mother,” Rosenberg said in a statement. “She was a masterful producer and a force of nature for the things she believed in, including the many projects that spanned her illustrious career, the stories she fought to tell and the social justice causes she championed.”
In September, Weinstein exited Tribeca Enterprises, which she joined as executive vp in 2013, to work on political campaigns. She earlier was a vp at Warner Bros., an executive vp at 20th Century Fox and president of United Artists.

Baltimore's own Barry Levinson started in television (The Carol Burnett Show, The Marty Feldman Comedy Machine) and screenwriting for others: He co-wrote the minor Mel Brooks classics High Anxiety and Silent Movie, as well as the iconic, Oscar-nominated script to .And Justice For All. In the '80s, he graduated to film, becoming an Oscar-winning, A-list writer-director. He debuted with the 1982 cult classic Diner; during a particularly impressive stretch, he directed 1987's brilliant Tin Men, the smash hit Robin Williams vehicle Good Morning Vietnam, 1988's Rain Man, 1990's critically acclaimed Avalon, and the glossy 1991 gangster epic Bugsy. His career has been spottier since then, as he's moved between genres and chased the occasional success, like 1994's profitable though critically disparaged Disclosure, or the well-received 1997 political satire Wag The Dog, with flops like 1992's Toys, 2000's An Everlasting Piece, and 2004's barely released Envy. Levinson also found success...

Levinson Slams Spielberg Over New Movie
Working for Steven Spielberg's Dreamworks on his new Irish-made movie was "the most disappointing experience" of Hollywood director Barry Levinson's life. The veteran movie-maker, whose past credits include Rain Man and Good Morning Vietnam, is upset at the way the company failed to promote the black comedy An Everlasting Piece in America. He says, "This is something that I've never heard of or experienced before in all my time in the business. I've never seen where a movie that actually got good reviews, the studio would actually hold those reviews from the ad. They refused to use any of these great quotes from highly-respected sources. And Dream Works made no effort to go after the film's core audience in America, the Irish. There's 40 million people you could chase, and what did they do? They held competitions and screenings for bald people."...
