Deutsch: 20.03.2005 01067 Dresden: Blick über den Altmarkt zur ab 1953 errichteten Westbebauung (GMP: 51.049257,13.735820) bis zum ehemaligen Centrum-Warenhaus (GMP: 51.050185,13.736803). Zusammen mit den Wohnbauten Altmarkt Westseite, entstanden in den 1950er Jahren nach Plänen von Herbert Schneider und Johannes Rascher, wurde auch das Eckgebäude des Centrum Warenhauses, also des alten Kaufhauses am Altmarkt, errichtet. Das achtstöckige Eckgebäude hatte der Architekt Alexander Künzer entworfen. Einweihung war am 13.08.1956. Dieses neue, dominante Eckgebäude wurde als Erweiterungsbau des damaligen HO-Warenhauses an der Wilsdruffer Straße genutzt, das schon 1931 errichtet worden war. Der Bau von 1931 beherbergte ursprünglich das Textilhaus Kaiser Stoff Etagen und ab 1932 füllte Woolworth die Regale im Erdgeschoß. Im angebauten Eckhaus am Altmarkt wurden anfangs nur Kleidungsstücke verkauft , doch schon im Oktober 1956 gab es auch Radios, Nähmaschinen und Polstermöbel. 1965 gründete die DDR die Warenhausvereinigung Centrum, der sich das "Howa" - so der Volksmund - als eines der ersten anschloß. Erst nach dem Umzug des Kaufhauses in das neue Kaufhaus auf der Prager Straße (Silberwürfel) 1978 wurde aus dem Eckbau am Altmarkt das Intecta-Einrichtungshaus.
