Costa Rica was a nation in the southern portion of Central America on Earth. It was bordered by Nicaragua to the north, Caribbean Sea to the east, Panama to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

According to Khan Noonien Singh, in September 1992 Augment Dictator Alexander Newton annexed Costa Rica into the North American Coalition. By 1996, Augment infighting led to Costa Rica becoming part of Newton's New American Empire. By the end of 1996, the Augment dictatorships were overthrown. (TOS - Khan comics: "Issue 2", "Issue 3")
