Shakaar Edon was a male Bajoran in the 24th century. He fought in the Bajoran Resistance in the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor and after the Cardassians withdrew rose to become First Minister of the Third Republic of Bajor from 2371.

Biography[]

During the Occupation of Bajor, Shakaar led a resistance cell which Kira Nerys was a member of. He sent Kira on her first raid at age thirteen.

Shakaar once led his resistance cell into Veska Province, where they, including Kira, saw the aftermath of a detonation of a nuclear bomb there. (DS9 - Invasion! novel: Time's Enemy)

After twenty-five years of fighting the Cardassians withdrew and Shakaar settled down as a farmer.

In 2371 Shakaar refused to return soil reclamators, which he had waited three years for, to Kai Winn, who had become acting first minister of Bajor. He had been promised the use of the machinery for one year. Winn sent the Bajoran Militia to arrest him, but they sided with Shakaar. Following this incident he became First Minister after Winn withdrew from the race when Shakaar and Kira Nerys threatened to reveal that she was willing to plunge Bajor into civil war over the soil reclamators. (DS9 episode: "Shakaar")

He presided over Bajor during the Dominion War, keeping it nominally neutral but a de facto Federation ally. Shakaar's government also prevented the Romulan Star Empire from fortifying a Bajoran moon, even ordering the militia to blockade the moon in the face of the Imperial Romulan Fleet. (DS9 episodes: "His Way", "Shadows and Symbols")

Splinter timeline[]

Following the Dominion War Shakaar left Bajor in April 2376 to lobby for Bajor's admittance into the Federation. (DS9 novel: Avatar, Book One)

Later that year, during a goodwill tour of the Federation, Shakaar Edon was infested by a Parasite, which forced him to order Second Minister Asarem Wadeen to stonewall peace negotiations with the Cardassian Union. At the ceremony signing the documents bringing the Republic of Bajor into the Federation, Shakaar was assassinated by Hiziki Gard, a joined Trill who had discovered that Shakaar was infested. By the time of Shakaar's death, the infestation had resulted in the destruction of his personality. (DS9 novels: Lesser Evil, Unity)

Alternate timeline[]

In an alternate timeline in which the Cardassian Union did not withdraw from Bajor in 2369, Shakaar was killed fighting the Cardassians prior to 2373. By that time, Kira was the last surviving member of the Shakaar resistance cell. (TNG - Myriad Universes novel: A Gutted World)
