Unlost Hope,” one of two Ukrainian documentaries recently acquired by Beta Film’s Autentic Distribution, will be released in 40 cities across the world, which are similar to Mariupol either by population or as a port and/or industrial center, or cities that are twinned with Mariupol, on Aug. 24, Ukraine independence day.
The film shows the Ukraine war through the eyes of ordinary people who lived through the first month of the invasion in Mariupol. Based on the diaries of local journalist Nadia Sukhorukova, the film is directed by Maksym Litvinov and produced by Volodymyr Borodyansky. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has appointed Jane Lush as the organisation’s new chair.
She replaces Anne Morrison in the role, who will continue as deputy chair.
Lush has been closely involved with BAFTA for a decade, joining the Board of Trustees in 2010 and serving as deputy chair for the past year. Her tenure as chair will run for two years.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced that Barbara Broccoli OBE has been appointed vice president for Film.
Following the recent appointment of Greg Dyke as BAFTA’s VP for Television, Broccoli will join Dyke in co-chairing BAFTA’s Council, assuming an ambassadorial role for the charity. Previous Film VP’s include Duncan Kenworthy (2009-2015) and Lord Puttnam (1995-2004).

Former BFI chairman succeeds Sophie Turner Laing in the role as vice president for television.
Former BBC director general Greg Dyke, who stood down as chairman of the British Film Institute (BFI) earlier this year, has been appointed as BAFTA’s vice president for television.
He succeeds Sophie Turner Laing in the position, which is largely an ambassadorial role.
Dyke joined the BFI as chairman in 2008. He is currently chairman of the English Football Association but will step down from that role this summer.
The executive commented on his appointment: “I am pleased to be staying in the television and film industries where, hopefully, I can use my understanding of both to good purpose.”

The survey, which was emailed to UK-based members of its 6500-strong membership, is anonymous and voluntary, with questions based on recent Creative Skillset industry workforce surveys. As well as questions about age, gender, socio-economic background and disability, the survey asks members to define their ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation.
While the timing of the survey, which was first sent out on January 20, raises the question of whether it was issued in direct reaction to the backlash surrounding the Oscars over lack of diversity in the Us Academy’s acting categories, a BAFTA insider denies this to be the case.

Duke of Cambridge and president of BAFTA to discuss organisation’s long-term ambitions for UK-Asia cross-cultural exchange.
BAFTA is to make its first visit to Shanghai as part of the delegation of British organisations attending the UK Government’s Great Festival of Creativity (March 2-4).
Prince William will officially open the festival. As president of BAFTA, the Duke of Cambridge will use the opportunity while in Shanghai to discuss BAFTA’s intentions to foster creative and cultural exchange between the UK and Asia in the film, television and games industries.

BAFTA is to make its first visit to Shanghai as part of the delegation of British organisations attending the UK Government’s Great Festival of Creativity (March 2-4).
Prince William will officially open the festival. As president of BAFTA, the Duke of Cambridge will use the opportunity while in Shanghai to discuss BAFTA’s intentions to foster creative and cultural exchange between the UK and Asia in the film, television and games industries.
The visit builds on BAFTA’s ongoing move into Asia, which began in Hong Kong in 2013 and has so far included a series of masterclasses with British talent, screenings of BAFTA-nominated British short films, a new broadcast deal with Youku Tudou to stream the BAFTA Awards ceremonies, and the establishment of a Hong Kong scholarship programme.

Oscar and BAFTA award-winning actor, director and producer starred in Brighton Rock and Jurassic Park.
Richard Attenborough has died aged 90, his son has confirmed to the BBC.
As an actor, Lord Attenborough will best be remembered for his roles in Brighton Rock, The Great Escape, Miracle On 34th Street and Jurassic Park.
He made his professional stage debut aged 18 and went on to accumulate nearly 80 credits acting on film.
As a film director and producer, he won two Oscars for Gandhi in 1983.
He directed 12 movies, starting with Oh! What A Lovely War in 1969, going on to make A Bridge Too Far (1977), Chaplin (1992) and Shadowlands (1993). His final film as a director was Closing The Ring in 2007.
British Prime Minister David Cameron paid tribute on Twitter and said: “His acting in “Brighton Rock” was brilliant, his directing of “Gandhi” was stunning - Richard Attenborough was one of the greats of cinema.”

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced Anne Morrison as its new chair at last night’s Agm, succeeding John Willis.
Morrison had been deputy chair for the last year and her tenure as chair will run for the next two years. John will be deputy chair for one year.

For the past two years, BBC veteran Anne Morrison has acted as deputy chair for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. On Wednesday, it was announced that she would be switching places with John Willis to succeed him as the new chair, according to media reports.
