Carlos Rosado Cobián, director of Spain’s Film Commission, cut a figure of intense pride as he stepped on stage in a small conference room this afternoon at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
That energy was matched by the audience of Spanish industry figures inside the room as Cobián introduced what he described as a groundbreaking report on the economic impact of international film and TV productions in Spain.
The commission’s report is the first of its kind in Spain and was produced by the UK-based consultancy firm Olsberg Spi in collaboration with the Spanish producers union Profilm.
The data collected in the detailed report covers four years, from 2019 to 2022. The analysis was collated using information from 165 productions that benefitted from Spain’s international incentive scheme.

Emily Blunt recently revealed that her two daughters did not approve of her iconic role in the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada. In a recent interview, the 41-year-old actress said that Hazel, 10, and Violet, 7, thought she was “the meanest person they’ve ever met” after watching her character Emily Charlton in the movie.
Charlton serves as the frazzled and high-strung assistant to the intimidating fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep. Now approaching its 18th anniversary, the film remains a popular part of pop culture and is regularly quoted. However, Blunt’s daughters had a starkly negative reaction upon seeing their mother portray the acerbic character.
Despite the harsh criticism from her children, Blunt fondly remembers her experience making the comedy-drama. She recalled being a young actress for her breakout role and unaware of box office metrics. When the movie became a massive commercial success, grossing over $326 million worldwide,...

Emily Blunt Says Her Daughters Thought She Was the “Meanest Person” for Her ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Role
Emily Blunt’s role in The Devil Wears Prada may be iconic among fans, but her children don’t necessarily agree.
The actress recently told Page Six that her two daughters, Hazel, 10, and Violet, 7, whom she shares with husband John Krasinski, found her character Emily Charlton in the 2006 film quite unpleasant.
“They thought I was the meanest person they’ve ever met,” Blunt shared of their reaction. In The Devil Wears Prada, the actress plays a high-strung assistant at a fictional fashion magazine, Runway, opposite Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.
However, the film is still beloved by many, which still shocks the Oppenheimer star to this day. “It’s incredible that it has such an indelible fingerprint on people … and it’s quoted to me every week,” she said.
Blunt also recalled having “the time of our lives” working on the David Frankel-directed comedy-drama, alongside Streep, Hathaway and Stanley Tucci.

Producers of the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards looked to the past during Sunday night’s telecast with onstage reunions featuring stars of beloved shows The West Wing and Happy Days and grouped segments that paid tribute to archetypes like TV moms, dads, doctors and even villains.
Per online chatter, some moments played better than others while the one that inspired the most head-scratching came as The Bear’s newly-minted Emmy winner Ebon Moss-Bacharach bellied up to the bar with Taylor Zakhar Perez. The two, teaming up to present outstanding writing for a limited or anthology series, started their outing at a backstage bar with one option on the shelves: Johnnie Walker Blue Label.
“Bartender, let me ask you: What goes best with a burger?” Moss-Bacharach asks a man behind the bar before surveying the scene and telling the star of Red, White and Royal Blue, “This is, you know, the best seat in the house.

Steven Spielberg has been putting together quite the cast for his next major project, and Deadline reports that Colman Domingo (Euphoria) is in early talks to join up.
Should Domingo sign on the dotted line, he would join a cast that includes Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer), Colin Firth (Kingsman: The Secret Service), and Eve Hewson (Hedda). As for the project itself, we don’t know much about it, only that it’s said to be a UFO movie based on Spielberg’s own original idea, with David Koepp (Jurassic Park) writing the screenplay. A UFO movie from the man who gave us Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and War of the Worlds is pretty much all I need to know. Bring it on. Universal Pictures has already slated the project for a May 15, 2026 release.
Domingo has been enjoying a hell of a run over the last year.

Begun, the Cola Wars have: Judd Apatow to direct Coke vs Pepsi movie with Steven Spielberg producing
Deadline reports that Judd Apatow has been tapped to direct Cola Wars for Sony, who shelled out $1 million in April for the pitch. The film is based on the true story of “Pepsi’s attempt to challenge Coca-Cola’s century-long reign as the world’s top cola” in the mid-1980s. Steven Spielberg is also on board and will produce the project through his Amblin Entertainment production company.
The Cola Wars brought us many memorable events, including the disastrous launch of New Coke and the Pepsi commercial that left Michael Jackson with severe burns. The film is billed as “the ultimate underdog tale of history’s most iconic second-place contender (Pepsi) vying for the No. 1 spot (Coca-Cola).” Jason Shuman (Acapulco) and Ben Queen (Cars 2) are penning the script for the project, and while it’s still in the early stages, it could be a fun flick.

Based on a true story, the film served as a creative project for the 53-year-old actor that became one of his most enjoyable pieces of all time.

As entertaining as this movie in itself was, its backstory of how Cameron Crowe wooed Damon into hopping onboard was even more interesting as the filmmaker took a rather clever approach to let the actor know what he was getting himself into. And through this very approach, he helped kill Damon’s doubt about starring in a ‘Disney’ version of the script pitched to him.

Tom Cruise's sci-fi run (so far) has been an interesting mix of blockbuster entries and high-concept food for thought. Genre blends like Cameron Crowe's "Vanilla Sky" meld sci-fi elements with romantic drama, while Joseph Kosinski's "Oblivion" infuse standard genre tropes with a twist. Of course, there's the unforgettable "Minority Report" — loosely based on Philip K. Dick's novella of the same name — which saw Cruise slip into the shoes of a Precrime officer racing against time to preemptively prove his innocence, all the while grappling with the concept of predeterminism. Although every Cruise sci-fi film has something interesting to offer (including the incredibly effective "War of the Worlds"), Doug Liman's "Edge of Tomorrow" promises an adventure truly novel and exciting, with Cruise embodying a character who has to earn the mantle of a hero the hard way.
Well, great news: "Edge of Tomorrow" is now sitting...

Early next year, Universal and Blumhouse will continue their reanimation of the Universal Monsters with the release of director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man. Whannell, who also directed Insidious 3 and Upgrade for Blumhouse, was the man responsible for bringing The Invisible Man back to life in 2020. He did so with a modern twist on the character that turned out to be more than just a moderate success. The Invisible Man raked in $144 million on a $7 million budget, receiving mostly positive reviews.
With horror doing better than ever at the box office and Whannell arguably without a miss on his directing resume, hopes are high for Wolf Man, howling into theaters on January 17, 2025.
But this isn’t the first time a modern Wolf Man project sounded good on paper…

Amidst all the talk surrounding a new Mission Impossible movie set to come out in 2025, almost nobody has paid heed to one of Tom Cruise’s most underrated hits. The Edge of Tomorrow quickly became a fan favorite following its release in May 2014. But somehow, the movie’s success got drowned out by the existing success that various other franchises Cruise worked on at the time and in the following years.

Edge of Tomorrow was recently made available to stream on Netflix. The movie quickly became a Top 2 streamed project on the platform and it’s widely considered as Netflix’s best Sci-fi/Action-Thriller of the past 15 years. Additionally, the movie also hit a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Steven Spielberg’s currently putting together the cast for his 2026 event film, The Dish. The Perfect Couple’s Eve Hewson could be about to join.
Irish actor Eve Hewson is the latest potential addition to The Dish, Steven Spielberg’s secretive project due out in 2026. Most recently seen in Netflix miniseries The Perfect Couple, Hewson is said to be in “early talks” to appear in Spielberg’s film according to a report at Deadline.
Hewson therefore joins Emily Blunt, Colin Firth and Josh O’Connor on the short list of actors who are said to be in the running to join Spielberg’s first movie since his 2022 drama, The Fabelmans.
Previously billed as a “new original event film,” The Dish’s title was revealed – perhaps inadvertently – during a July IMAX presentation; the name popped up on a PowerPoint slide, sandwiched between the next Avengers film and The Mandalorian And Grogu. Universal Pictures...

Summer movie season 2024 has come to an end – and here’s a look at where the blockbuster world has ended up.
The big kick off for summer movie blockbuster season 2024 was, not too long ago now, The Fall Guy. Remember that? Because in the aftermath of its release, you could have been forgiven for thinking the movies were doomed.
Headlined by two huge movie stars in the shape of Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling, it was full of wit, strong stunts, and the feeling throughout that people had put in a massive shift to make the film work. The details fitted, there were sly things threaded in for movie nerds to enjoy – crucially, being the gravy over the meal, rather than the meal itself – and I found it a hugely entertaining two hours. Things were off to a good start I though, as I filed a positive review.

Less than a year after Sam Richardson (“Ted Lasso”) won his first Best Comedy Guest Actor Emmy on his second consecutive try, Jon Bernthal (“The Bear”) is poised to do the same. Whereas the category’s 2023 lineup included an even mix of veteran and rookie nominees, Bernthal is the sole returning contender this time and has thus emerged as quite a strong frontrunner.
Bernthal currently faces opposition from fellow “The Bear” actors Bob Odenkirk and Will Poulter as well as Emmys newcomer Ryan Gosling (“Saturday Night Live”) and former TV movie acting nominee Matthew Broderick (“Only Murders in the Building”). Rounding out his list of challengers is Christopher Lloyd (“Hacks”), who poses a distinct threat in that he triumphed on all three of his previous Emmy bids.

In his review of "Oppenheimer" for The New Yorker, Richard Brody wrote that "the film is so intent on making Oppenheimer an icon of conflicted conscience that it pays little attention to his character over all." A prime example of this comes in the form of the Oval Office scene, where, having delivered the atomic bomb to his military bosses, J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) is called to a meeting with President Harry Truman.
Truman, played by Gary Oldman in a very brief cameo role, is positively giddy following his decision to drop the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, yet finds himself faced with a chastened Oppie, who feels as though he has "blood on his hands." The President balks at this confession, waving a handkerchief in the physicist's face before declaring that the citizens of the leveled Japanese cities care only about who dropped the bomb, not who made it.

Steven Spielberg is coming back with yet another intriguing movie about which only a little is known till now. Earlier rumors claimed Emily Blunt is in talks for the lead role. When you think of Tom Cruise movies, the first action movies that come to mind are probably the Mission: Impossible movies or the Top Gun movies. Those are two of the most successful action franchises featuring Cruise, so that makes sense.
Despite Cruise being well known in the action space for those movies, along with the death-defying stunts performed while making those movies, there's another of Cruise's action movies that often gets forgotten.
That movie is Edge of Tomorrow, which premiered in 2014, and it's back on Netflix celebrating the film's 10-year anniversary! If you're looking for what to watch on Netflix, you can't go wrong with Edge of Tomorrow.

Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott stars as Blake, a San Francisco husband and father, who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. With his marriage to his high-powered wife, Charlotte, fraying, Blake persuades Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger.
But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter. As the night stretches on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable, and Charlotte will be forced to...

A sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is in the works and there have been some updates about returning cast members.
When the project was revealed earlier this summer, it was announced that Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt would be reprising their roles as Miranda Priestly and Emily Charlton, but nothing was known about other cast members. We’ve since learned some more info.
The movie is said to follow the downfall of traditional magazine publishing, forcing Miranda to go head-to-head with former assistant Emily, who is now a high-powered executive at a luxury fashion group and has the advertising dollars that Runway magazine needs to stay afloat.
So, who else is returning?

Yesterday, we posted a poll asking readers what they thought was the best summer 2024 movie. By a landslide, the winner was Deadpool & Wolverine, but the runner-up was George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which was an infamously giant flop earlier this summer. In this case, the box office result didn’t do justice to the quality of the film itself – at least according to us here at JoBlo. But Furiosa wasn’t the only good movie that came out this summer that get enough love.
Here are five underrated summer 2024 movies:

Our top pick this week is five-time Academy Award nominee Yorgos Lanthimos’ black comedy “Kinds of Kindness,” which is now streaming on Hulu. It’s Lanthimos’ third collaboration with Emma Stone, after “The Favourite” and “Poor Things.” It’s unlikely to make as strong a showing at the Academy Awards as those two, but that’s pretty much by design, as the film’s anthology structure and darkly absurdist tone make it not the kind of thing that wins Oscars. Jesse Plemons did win Best Actor at Cannes, though, so he could be a longshot contender in that category, especially at the Golden Globes.
The film consists of three loosely connected stories about people experiencing various forms of severe distress. In addition to Stone and Plemons, the cast includes Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, and Mamadou Athie.

The series told the story of Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stunt-man who might as well be a bounty hunter as he utilized his skills in stunt work to catch criminals. The series was a success, and more recently, has been adapted into a major motion picture. Starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, ‘The Fall Guy’ premiered at South By Southwest Film Festival, and has recently made its rounds to theatres across America. However, the film of the same name might not live up to the original series. Things to do: Subscribe to The Hollywood Insider’s YouTube Channel, by clicking here. Tom Cruise is known for his extreme commitment to his roles, no matter how death-defying they may be. From intense preparations for his dramatic roles to doing his own stunts, Cruise gives it all to entertain the audience most authentically and spectacularly.
One of his most underrated films remains Edge of Tomorrow, which has surprisingly funny moments for a film about an alien race destroying the world.
