It’s incredible how fast #AI generated #avatars are progressing, and Microsoft has just pushed the boundaries even further. There is significant potential for positive #XR use cases in medical fields, business, training, and personal applications. However, this advancement also raises concerns. How will we be able to discern in the future whether the person we are talking to is real or not? How might this change the value we place on personal interactions? https://lnkd.in/djNFZ2sV

Your Next Video Call Could Be With a Talking Mona Lisa ! Thanks to Microsoft's AI. Microsoft Research has unveiled VASA-1, a groundbreaking AI system that can create incredibly realistic talking faces from just a single image and audio clip! This technology goes beyond simple lip-syncing, generating natural facial expressions and head movements that bring the image to life. VASA-1's impressive capabilities extend to handling diverse inputs, including artistic photos and singing voices. Imagine the possibilities for creating engaging virtual assistants, educational tools, or even personalized avatars! However, alongside the excitement, there are valid concerns about the potential misuse of deepfakes. What are your thoughts on this development? Does VASA-1 represent a significant leap forward in human-computer interaction, or are there ethical considerations to prioritize? #AI #MicrosoftResearch #VASA1 #Deepfakes #Technology #FutureofWork Link to Microsoft VASA-1 project: https://lnkd.in/gXTcJbeS

👉#VASA1 #Microsoft's new #AI tool is a #deepfake #machine Faces generated with Microsoft VASA-1 It almost seems quaint to remember when all AI could do was generate images from a text prompt. Over the last couple of years generative AI has become more and more powerful, making the jump from photos to videos with the advent of tools like Sora. And now Microsoft has introduced a powerful tool that might be the most impressive (and terrifying) we've seen yet. VASA-1 is an AI image-to-video model that can generate videos from just one photo and a speech audio clip. Videos feature synchronised facial and lip movements, as well as "a large spectrum of facial nuances and natural head motions that contribute to the perception of authenticity and liveliness." On its research website, Microsoft explains how the tech works. "The core innovations include a holistic facial dynamics and head movement generation model that works in a face latent space, and the development of such an expressive and disentangled face latent space using videos. Through extensive experiments including evaluation on a set of new metrics, we show that our method significantly outperforms previous methods along various dimensions comprehensively. Our method not only delivers high video quality with realistic facial and head dynamics but also supports the online generation of 512x512 videos at up to 40 FPS with negligible starting latency. It paves the way for real-time engagements with lifelike avatars that emulate human conversational behaviours." In other words, it's capable of #creating #deepfake #videos #based #on a #single #image. It's notable that Microsoft insists the tool is a "research demonstration and there's no product or API release plan." Seemingly in an attempt to allay fears, the company is suggesting that VASA-1 won't be making its way into users' hands any time soon.

Are humans ready for VASA-1? Microsoft has recently introduced an #AI model that given a headshot photo and an audio file, the face can come to life! In a very convincing manner, I might add. Kudos to Microsoft for calling out they do not have plans to release this AI feature for public applications until they work out the technology will used responsibly. Take a look! #AI #responsibleAI # https://lnkd.in/gFJcimr7

Microsoft’s new AI model, VASA-1, can transform a single still image and an audio clip into an animated video. Microsoft says it won’t release a demo, API, or product with VASA-1 'until we are certain that the technology will be used responsibly.' https://lnkd.in/du8Ng9wB #ai #genai #development #artificialintelligence

This is what I really dislike about the #AI hype we are seeing each and every day 👇 . . Microsoft has released a study paper about what looks like a hot project, VASA-1: in short, a generation model that seems capable of generating life-like persons with almost perfect facial expressions and lip sync, from a simple still portrait image. The concept is not new of course, there are plenty of apps and services that can make a photo "talk" in a somewhat natural manner, not to speak about the groundbreaking applications like HeyGen , when it comes to generate human digital extensions. This VASA-1 project seems to take things to a whole new level but... it's a study. A study with no timeline of deployment, release, use or API'S., at the moment. Sure, it will probably come sooner than later (but judging from the increasing number of fake demos even from big names recently, who knows) - but it's still not there in any way, shape or form. Still, what do I see in my network of AI evangelists? A plethora of click bait posts about "The death of human videos", "Microsoft kills the market", "Unreal groundbreaking app from Microsoft", "Goodbye AI avatars".... Guys: AI is so dynamic and changing everyday, and the confusion is already there even without adding to it, especially considering that the audience sees you as sage experts ☺️ Please, resist the temptation of the likes in your posts and thrive for real education and disclosure. Keep it cool, keep the hype down 😌. Have a nice day y'all ☀️ https://lnkd.in/e4Vq5nWD

VASA-1 is a Microsoft research project that generates lifelike talking faces in real time, using only a single static image and a speech audio clip. Whilst it is fun to see Mona Lisa rapping, and exciting to see another AI advancement, this is also a reminder of the needs for responsible development and use. This research is intended to focus on visual affective skills for virtual AI avatars, aiming for positive applications. It is not intended to create content that is used to mislead or deceive. As of now, there is no plan for commercial products or API or online demo. https://lnkd.in/eheMU7By #MicrosoftAI

Microsoft has unveiled a new neural network for creating deepfakes called "VASA-1," https://lnkd.in/d4JJXTG5 which animates pictures and voices them with an AI voice. To create "live avatars" in videos, VASA-1 only needs one photo and audio with a voice. Supposedly, the neural network is to be used in the future only for noble purposes. The technology is not aimed at creating content used for misleading or deception. We do not plan to release an online demo, API, product, or discuss additional details until we are convinced that the technology will be used responsibly and in accordance with proper rules.
