The tavern is very old & historical. Wanted to visit because it's an atlas obscura. Two sides, one an ABC for liquor & the other for beer & wines. Both clerks were knowledgeable & great to let us look around. We stocked up a bit, too, as they had such interesting drinks to try.

Super. Couldn't go into the old section (arcane state laws ?) but the newer beer section is excellent and based on local craft selections (i.e. exactly what I'm looking for when traveling). More expansion planned with open taps coming, this place is super cool right in historic Charleston!

Stopped in to see this old Tavern! Right now one side is liquor store and other is beer/wine. We understand that they will be serving in the Tavern soon. Can’t wait to go back to have a drink there! They were very kind and offered names of restaurants off the beaten path that the locals love!
America's Oldest Liquor Store - Est. 1686
We have an extensive selection of local liquors/brands and other unique/rare bottles of whiskey, bourbon, scotch, beer and wine.
Please ask to see our floor hatch which leads to tunnels where booze was delivered all across Charleston during Prohibition.
We offer free tastings daily of local moonshines, whiskey and other liquors.
Also we have a nice selection of wine and beer from all over the world including champagne/prosecco/cava.
We are located on the corner of East Bay and Broad streets next door to the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon.
Cheers!
