Heat to unveil statue of Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade in October

The Hall of Famer will be the first Heat player in franchise history to be honored with a statue in Miami.

Dwyane Wade was a 3-time NBA champion with the Heat during his NBA career.

The growing list of statues honoring legendary NBA players is getting another legendary name.

After revealing in January that a statue of Dwyane Wade was coming soon, the Miami Heat announced that the statue will be unveiled on Oct. 27 in front of the Kaseya Center.

“When we retired his jersey in February 2020, I said Dwyane was the face of this franchise forever and I meant it,” Heat President Pat Riley said in a statement in January. “Dwyane’s legacy is a towering one not only for the Miami Heat but for Miami-Wade County. I can’t think of a better way to honor him than by memorializing that legacy.”

Omri Amrany and Oscar LeĂłn of Fine Art Studio Rotblatt Amrany were commissioned to create the Wade statue. Amrany’s works of retired NBA stars include the iconic “Michael Jordan Spirit” in Chicago as well as statues of Shaquille O’Neal, Dirk Nowitzki and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar among many others.

Wade was drafted by the Heat in 2003 and was named to the All-Rookie team. He was a 13-time All-Star and led the Heat to their first NBA title in 2006, winning the Finals MVP. After teaming up with LeBron James and Chris Bosh in 2010, he helped lead the Heat to back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013.

In 15 seasons with the Heat, Wade averaged 22.7 points, 5.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds, including winning the 2009 NBA scoring title.

Wade was named a member of the NBA 75 anniversary team and was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2023.
