About us
Our mission is to challenge and equip vulnerable youth from at-risk communities in Toronto to become contributing members of the community. Every year, thousands of vulnerable youth do not get a chance to realize their potential. They are consistently challenged by a combination of barriers stemming from their circumstances. By no fault of their own, they are at risk of not achieving positive life outcomes and are most vulnerable to violence, poverty and crime. At Trails, we strive to ensure youth can pursue their hopes, dreams and aspirations, free of barriers based on race, gender, economic status or geography, so that they can achieve success and meaningfully contribute to their community. We train through the outdoors, not for the outdoors. The Trails programme teaches our participants skills, exposes them to relevant knowledge and then builds their confidence so they can succeed. Boys and girls start at age 12 and attend Trails for two weeks in the summer and for one weekend a month from October to May, for four years. We believe that early intervention, along with the right amount of guidance, support and structure, can change everything for our kids. Trails is about prevention: helping our participants identify their strengths and imbuing them with a desire to complete high school, seek further education and/or productive careers, and to contribute to their community.

"Trails is safety. The most transformative life experience I had was on trip. It was intense and so challenging that it pushed me to a point where I accessed a part of myself that I didn’t even know was there. It saved me. As a city kid, never being out of the city before made me bond with others. In my personal life, I was dealing with a lot and I had no resources or people to talk to. Two weeks with my Trails people set things straight and helped me trust and find community. Trails has been my safe space ever since - a safe place to be a kid, even as an adult." - William Alachiotis, Nite Hawks, International Development Follow us to hear more from our incredible Alumni! 💚 #4seasons4years4life #outdooreducation #highropes #nonprofit #education #getoutside #nature #ontario

We are beyond excited to be a Hydro Flask Parks For All grant recipient for 2024. Their Parks For All program supports non-profit organizations, like Trails, who provide more equitable access to parks and the outdoors. With our grant, we will continue to inspire and engage vulnerable youth from at-risk communities to participate in responsible outdoor adventure and develop their self-confidence and leadership skills, while promoting environmental stewardship. Our participants were also pretty excited to show off their new HydroFlask water bottles this summer! Thank you to Hydro Flask and their awesome Parks for All program that has donated over $3.7M to parks over the past six years. #ParksForAll #HeyLetsGo #HydroFlask
