Clarification

edit

"The radula is unique to all mollusks, except the bivalves" - does this mean that it's common to all mollusks except the bivalves? Or is there some subtler distinction that I'm missing? DS 11:55, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I have reworded the sentence. Thanks for notifying. JoJan 13:08, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)

The picture to go with this article is not loading.

Do you happen to have any citations for these figures or the list of the type of radulas? cause that'd be really helpful to my senior project which is on chiton radulas. thanks

can I just say I really like the top 3 diagrams, we need more like this on wiki :-)

With referance to Citation 3, is Undertale a scholarly recourse that we can use on Wikipedia? 19:55, 27 Jul 2016 (GMT)

I've removed that reference, as it was no longer available at its address. The waybackmachine gave an illustration that is not fit for this article. JoJan (talk) 13:53, 29 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

histology images

Are these images http://www.mollusca.cz/galerie/histology.htm useful for wikipedia? --Snek01 11:04, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes they are. The copyright license also falls within the guidelines of Wikipedia Commons . But the description in simple language of these photos in Wikipedia requires a advanced knowledge of malacology. JoJan 13:22, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I am the author of these histological sections and of these photos. But I can not add better descrition. I have got more photos of respiratory system probably. Any help appreciated. --Snek01 01:27, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
You can upload them to the Commons anyway. I'll see what I can do with them. JoJan 15:28, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Five of them added to commons http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Snek01 --Snek01 00:12, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

What about the radula of cephalopods? Is it inside a beak or IS it a beak?

Radula vs radular

edit

I see both spellings in the literature. ( Example: "Ultrastructure and development of iron mineralization in the radular teeth of Cryptochiton stelleri (mollusca)" 1967) I suspect radular is the older, British spelling, and the radula spelling without an r came about because of the difference in rotic American pronunciation, but it's only a guess. Anyone able to shed more light on this? radular with an r appears a lot in the older literature, so it might be helpful to briefly mention this in the first line of this article, to help those searching the literature to pick up the older references. 58.96.80.136 (talk) 06:39, 3 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Checking several dictionaries, the word "radular" is the only accepted adjective of "radula". "Radular" is very common even in recent literature, such as in expressions "radular type", "radular teeth", "radular charachters", "radualr differences", "radular morphology","radular membrane", "radular sac". On the other hand, the "Online Dictionary of Invertebrate Zoology" only mentions "radula sac". You'll probably will need a linguist to give more insight in this matter.
