Star Wars Outlaws: Is stealth necessary? Stealth tips Star Wars Outlaws guide, tips

Is sneaking mandatory in Star Wars Outlaws? From our guide you will learn when stealth actions are required, in what situations stealth can be avoided and how to stay hidden.

Last update: 17 September 2024

Stealth in Star Wars Outlaws can be quite demanding - it'll force you to play slowly and repeat some parts of the mission. On this page of the guide you will learn whether it is possible to disable required stealth, what the conditions for failing the mission may be, how to make yourself harder to detect with outfits and skills and some practical tips for sneaking.

Locations with mandatory stealth

  1. Mandatory stealth may be a requirement for some missions - this applies in particular to main storyline quests, where, for example, you may have to infiltrate a hostile location. Being detected in such quests means automatic failure - you will be taken back to the last checkpoint or kicked out of the hostile zone (with the risk of deterioration of relations with one of the factions).
  2. Information about the stealth requirement is always displayed in the upper right corner of the screen (example in the image).

You may receive 2 messages:

  1. Do not get caught - this is a more difficult version because you have to avoid detection completely. Failing stealth means the gameplay sequence is stopped and you have to repeat it.
  2. Do not raise the alarm - this is an easier version, because detection does not mean automatic failure. You can't let enemies raise the alarm - quickly eliminate those who have a red circle above their heads (see the screenshot above). If the circle fills up, you'll fail.

The absence of one of the above messages means that stealth in that location is optional. It is worth avoiding detection even if there is no such requirement - if you're detected, it may unnecessarily worsen relations with a given faction, fights will begin with the option to call for reinforcements, and your protagonist may be chased.

How do I remove required stealth?

  1. If the game forces you to sneak in a mission, there's nothing you can do about it - you have to complete the section and the only option to make it less troublesome is to lower the difficulty level.
  2. You can partially get rid of the stealth requirement for faction areas. After your reputation for a given group has reached the Good level, you will be allowed into its territory and will be able to travel through publicly accessible areas.
  3. Guarded areas within a faction's territory will always be inaccessible (example in the image). You will need to sneak there regardless of your relationship with the faction. Detection is then strongly discouraged, as it'll damage your reputation.

Outfits and skills that make stealth easier

  1. We recommend maximizing the reputation with the Pyke Syndicate faction. The reward for achieving this state will be the Imperial Disguise Gear.
  2. Putting on all 3 items of clothing (Imperial Disguise Jacket, Imperial Disguise Belt, Imperial Disguise Pants) will increase your chances of avoiding detection by Imperial forces. This can be especially useful when infiltrating Imperial bases and outposts - remember to equip the items before entering hostile territory. This will reduce the risk of triggering alarm and notifying reinforcements or the need to restart the stealth section.
  1. Gaining maximum reputation with the Crimson Dawn faction will in turn unlock the Crimson Reign Gear.
  2. The most interesting clothing item from the unlocked set is the Crimson Reign Tunic. Once equipped, Kay's ability to avoid detection will be increased - this will work on all enemies, not only on soldiers and officers of the Empire.
  1. Some other outfits found as loot or obtained as rewards also offer various bonuses related to stealth - read their descriptions.
  2. For example, the Akiva Thief Belt can make stealth takedowns regenerate Kay's health. It is useful, for example, after escaping from enemies and resuming working from shadows.
  1. Additionally, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with all the new experts skills - they can also help you sneak.
  2. A good example is the Smoke Bomb associated with expert Selo Rovak. Thanks to it, you can limit the visibility of enemies in a selected area in order to attack them by surprise or escape them. Later in the game, you can also improve the bomb's performance, for example to make it effective against droids, not just living enemies.

Stealth tips

Below you will find a set of practical tips that should help you avoid detection and reduce the risk of raising alarms.

  1. Use Nix sense to scan the area (the Up arrow on the D-pad). This allows you to spot enemies more easily and reduce the risk of detection.
  2. Send Nix to distract enemies. This is the best way to lure away individual enemies, whom you can then attack by surprise.
  3. React to your opponents' alert states. The appearance of the yellow icon does not automatically mean that sneaking has failed. Be prepared, however, that a guard may come closer to you and search the location.
  4. Look for security camera switches. You can also send Nix into their field of view. This will not trigger an alarm, and the camera will focus on your companion for a few moments, making it easier for you to sneak further.
  5. Hide in tall grass or mists. These are good places to wait for a patrol to pass by. Alternatively, you can whistle and lure enemies to a particular spot for easy silent elimination.
  6. Look for ventilation shafts and other alternate paths. They can help you avoid heavily guarded areas or help you reach your mission objective.
