In book one in the Assignment Caribbean Night series, Emma Richardson is on vacation with her best friend and hopes to heal from a recent traumatic event. All she wants is to not be afraid of the water and to enjoy a vacation fling.
Former Navy Seal Dex Riley thinks Emma can do better than a man like him, so he does his best to push her away, but he can’t stop himself from dragging her closer at the same time.
Both Emma and Dex are suffering from PTSD, but they’re doing their best to heal and move on from their past and nightmares. The secondary characters were interesting, in particularly Evan, one of Dex’s friends and fellow Seal team members. Most of the military romances I’ve read before feature men with issues, but this story really went into detail about the self-loathing that some soldiers experience during or after their time in the service.
Even though this story is a short novel, it probably would’ve worked better as a novella (pacing was slow at times), but I enjoyed it overall.
