A story of a group of people who are trapped for a while in a waystation, learning more about themselves and their lives while being cut off from their normal links to the outside, it's where they ask themselves questions about their assumptions and their relationships with the other people in their lives. At the same time there is a tension about when the repairs will happen so that they can leave and go on with their lives.
Everyone in the story has secrets and issues and at the end still have those issues but maybe a better perspective on them.
I liked the read, Becky Chambers is always like a warm hug and this was no exception.

A fun sci-fi adventure starring a rag-tag team of contractors trying to make an honest living aboard a wormhole tunneling starship known as The Wayfarer. Some might call this a cozy novel, but that does not mean that it is without conflict. There’s adventure to be had and danger to avoid and one character in particular has a dark secret. Some things that I really appreciated about this book:

1. The description of The Wayfarer portrays a very logical schematic for a large spacecraft that needs to endure long term missions.

2. The various alien species aboard, just as well described as The Wayfarer, bring a unique environment to the story that many space operas avoid, save for Star Wars and Star Trek.

3. It’s funny!

I got this out of the Library. I found it so wonderful and so meaningful, that I've decided that I need my own copies of both books. There's an Etsy dealer who makes earrings out of pictures of covers of books. I have two pairs for two of the most influential books that I've ever read, and these two books with make a third pair.

Becky Chambers has developed a wonderful niche in SF. Although this is a standalone, the characters share the same warm, empathetic behaviours that we have come to know and love from The Wayfarers series.
The development of the story is very satisfying and the narrative flows beautifully.
The jeopardy is subsidiary to the relationships and that is a novel thing.
