I NEVER THOUGHT THAT I WOULD STOP LAUGHING SO HARD AND I LOVE ALL TEN OF THE HONEYBUNS!!! Poor Angie overheard a hit while she used the men's bathroom because the ladies was out of order. She heard that the two thugs were going to kill an old man and when she heard them tearing up some paper and leaving it in an empty trash can and leaving out of the door she waited until she thought they had gone the grabbed the papers, told her assistant that she needed leave and she hurried out of the door to go to her apartment to piece the note back together. I roared with laughter when Angie called Alistair Honeybun and told him what she overheard, but he thought one of his brothers was playing a joke on him and hung upon her, so Angie looked up his address and headed to his home, Once there she was surprised to not see an old man, but a hottie. Beware when all of the Honeybuns get together to protect their son and brother. I ALMOST FELT SORRY FOR THE THUGS!!… (more)

Whew, what a ride! If there is one thing that instantly drew me into this book, it was the rather unusual setting of the MC. Nadia is not a student in magic school, or the chosen one trope waiting the save the world. She is no princess or an assasin. She is simply a sort of magical artifact librarian, born with a small amount of magic that allows all sorts of semi sentinent magical artifacts to be drawn to her company and well... her little bookstore has a back room filled with endless aisles of all sorts of crazy magical knickknacks that live with her be choice. Most objects seem either harmless or straightforward (including a powerful pirate sword with a dead parrot saying bleeped expletives nonstop whenever the sword is in use). Other objects... well, when Nadia accepted to purchase Croakies bookstore a few years ago, she also adopted a naughty velvet chair which will take any chance it can get to pinch a woman's bottom just for the laughs.

Things get even weirder when her magical pet cat Mr. Wicked discovers her bookstore has been invaded... by a cursed frog! After discovering the mind of a male witch named Rustin is trapped inside the frog by his very evil family as a sort of punishment, it is up to Nadia, Mr. Wicked and her magical friends to find a way to reverse the spell before he ends up trapped forever.

Yeah, the plot surely caught my attention quick. Plus, you can't deny a casanova chair and a soft grey kitten with irresistible orange eyes as the heroine's trusty sidekick make a fun team of vigilantes of the magical world.

Rustin's family is like... as if the Malfoys from Harry Potter could get away doing pretty much any sort of maniacal evil sorcery just for the fun of it without any Aurors willing to stop them. Despite being a somewhat peaceful world living hidden from humans, the magical world here seems to be a bit of a dog eats world world and Rustin's family is starting to go a tad little bit too far pushing the limits of the law with nobody willing to step up and face them.

The pacing was a bit slow at first, but it was indeed a really fun ride the whole book and I will definitely be looking at the sequels sometime just to see what happens next.

4 1/2 stars!

Joey lost her parents in a small aircraft crash. She is out for a walk her her pit bull when she notices Caphy has something strange in her mouth. This leads into a mystery with bodies piling up.
I couldn’t put down this book. From the first page I was hooked. I think it was somewhere around the 30% mark that I was gobsmacked by the thought, “Joey is me!” Only younger, better looking and braver. Hahaha. Obviously I enjoyed the heck out of Joey and Caphy, (my Caphy is a shih tzu who could easily be convinced she is a pit bull). I enjoyed this mystery so much! I’m not always big on a romance starting out in a mystery. I feel like it really has to fit the personality of the protagonist, especially when the guy is an unknown. I feel like it was Joey’s personality to be attracted to Hal. The romance did go quick but when you’re in danger feelings tend to intensify. I’m interested to see if it slows down or remains at the fast pace. I tend to believe in love at first sight so either way works for me. I’m wondering if this is going in the direction of an investigative team. That would be fine by me. I was a fan of early mystery shows like Hart to Hart and McMillan and Wife, (anyone remember those?). The mystery is fast paced with lots of action and Caphy is a big part of the story. Make time for this one!
