Robert Schumann: Herald of a "New Poetic Age" by John Daverio
This is simply the best Schumann biography in English. Every aspect of Schumann's life is explored, including his relationships with his wife Clara and his musical colleagues, and especially his literary inspirations, particularly his beloved Jean Paul. The icing on the cake is the detailed analyses of Schumann's compositions. I strongly recommend this book to all lovers of classical music.
