Similar book to "Family of Liars" and "We were Liars". We, the readers know from the outset, that one of the protagonists in the book is going to die from newspaper clippings dated after the events of the book. Cleverly, the author only alludes to "the unidentified youth" in these clippings so we are left to ponder which of the players will meet a grisly end.
Two famly branches plus a new side to be married into the wealthy Mayweather clan meet on a Caribbean resort. Twins Addison and Mason, cousin Nathalia (and her 12 year old sister Mia) and soon to be step-brother Theo. We hear the stort unfold from Addison,Mason, Nathalia and Theo's perspective - they all have secrets. Some are known by the others and could be used for blackmail purposes. Especially when there is a lot of family money involved and lives could be upturned. But then what of the surf club down the beach and the local news story of the missing girls who may have been trafficked - maybe it has nothing to do with the family at all?
Love how the author throws in a few red herrings here and there to make you suspect various people or guess incorrectly as to who the dead body will turn out to be... When the victim was revealed, even that caused me to think it was someone else who did it, so kudos to the author for spinning me along. My only criticism is that I don't think the person responsible could have kept the secret in - and also I LOVE the final little bit at the end from the extra character - very clever!! For fans of One of Us is Lying too.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review here and on my blog Samwise Reviews. I started this book feeling pretty unsure, and I ended up loving it. The story switches timelines between Then and Now and it took me a while to get used to that and remember what was going on. The holes in Anna’s memory were both exciting and frustrating; I was able to guess one of the surprises around the ending but not any of the others. There were a number of loose ends around the ¾ mark, and I was mostly happy with how they were all wrapped up by the end. The final confession did seem a bit too easy, but it wasn’t a completely unlikely scenario. While being slightly frustrating at times, I still found the book hard to put down and I stayed up late to finish it. This also met the "Written In First Person" part of my 2020 reading challenge.… (more)

I am a little on the fence on how to review this book, so I will try to make it brief and as honest as I can after all the target audience is for teens so that can also be why it wasn't a 5 star for me.

It is a mystery and it is true to that genre, however at some points it did kind of drag for me but I think it's more so to the writing style. Now don't misunderstand I think the author did a good job in her writing style and keeping the mystery going but for my personal preference it was not exactly top tier for me. The aspects of the podcast portion of the book sometimes was distracting and pulled me away and other times it made me keep wanting to find out what happened to Zoey and absolutely how Anna is connected to the whole thing. I give it a 4 out of 5 star for it's mystery, story line and the intrigue of the characters.
If you enjoy crime, mystery, and podcast this book is definitely for you and if you like audiobooks definitely check that out as well I read the physical book but I also listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a great job.

* I got this book for review*
I think this book feel a bit flat for me. It was pitched me to me as girl trying to uncover the mystery of her mother death. I think this book was more focued on the elite prep school and the secret soceity and it adventrues on campus. I did like he main character. I also did like all the talk of abuse and how schools can do better. I also thought the battle about the sexaual assult was a nice plot line. But it did not capture me as much as her previous book do. The ending i felt was rather rushed and felt like it was left super open ended. Not a new fav, but a fast pace read!!… (more)
