I am a hobbyist letterpress printer and use a traditional platen press. I found that when selecting type, it is often difficult to decide what I want to order. This book will give you full images, a little history and perhaps compare and contrast the typeface you are considering to other typefaces. The book is well-constructed, well-printed and simply a first-rate effort. It is out of print, expensive and difficult to find. My copy came from a rare book dealer in London, England. Because of Covid-19, I had to wait an inordinately long time, but it was worth the wait. Along with General Printing and perhaps Practice of Printing, this is the third book that I'd say is absolutely mission critical for any traditional print shop and also belongs in any good graphic arts library.… (more)
