J. Ramsey Michaels, Professor of Religious Studies Emeritus at Missouri State University in Springfield, now lives in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He has written extensively in New Testament studies, including commentaries on First Peter, Revelation, and Hebrews, and most recently a major work on the show more Gospel of John. Currently he is preoccupied with Flannery O'Connor, and a commentary of a very different sort. show less

The New International Commentary on the New Testament (NICNT) is based on careful study of the Greek text and reflects serious work in technical areas -- such as linguistics, textual criticism and historical concerns. The NICNT series flourished under the editorship of several New Testament scholars -- first Ned Stonehouse (Westminster Theological Seminary), then F. F. Bruce (University of Manchester, England) and Gordon D. Fee (Regent College, Canada) and now Joel B. Green (Fuller Theological Seminary). Solid, but not outstanding. Helpful, but not revolutionary. A good, straightforward commentary with some nice insights.
