Cass and her sisters have been running off overseers and guardians appointed by their father from their ranch for years. When another overseer has been run off, their father decides to take more of a hand in it and sends in a Navy SEAL with the hope that he can see what is going on and, possibly, marry Cass. What he finds is not what he expected. Can he help the women? Will they let him? Will they run him off?

I enjoyed this book a whole lot! I liked Cass and her sisters. I also enjoyed Brian and his soon-to-be teammates. Cass and Brian are good together once Cass lets down her walls. He shares his past with her, and she shares hers. She also lets him know what has been going on with the ranch for the past year. Action and adventure galore when their plan kind of backfires. I get my HEA and the set up for the next book in the series. This is going to be fun! ( )

I wanted to give it a 3.5 so just rounded up.
A widowed General with 5 daughters trying to run the family's Montana cattle ranch. He left after his wife's funeral and has never come back. In all his wisdom, and with the help of predated letters from his wife, he has decided it's time for his girls to marry so that men can run the ranch the way it should be. He's just a bit old fashioned (eye roll here) and has sent countless overseers and chaperones over the years.
In reading the latest letter it's been determined that Cass will be the first to marry. But who....hmm, if only he had a way to hand pick husbands for his girls. Good men, men who would care for them and love the ranch. His brilliant idea....find soldiers, SEALs, Marines....those who might be on the edge of getting kicked out so he could "persuade" them to go along with his plan. (I know sounded pretty far fetched to me too but figured let's see what happens just for s and g's.)
Cass, the eldest daughter, took her mother's words to heart. One of them had to be on the ranch at all times to ensure the General's safe return. She's tried to raise her sister's and teach them independence and to rely on no one but the 5 of them. Men, don't trust them all they want to do is control you.
Navy SEAL Brian Lake wonders what he and the rest of this ragtag group is doing and what does it mean for his military career. He needs to stay in to save the money for the ranch he's dreamed of having. The one like his father gambled away after his mom was killed in a robbery gone bad. When the General finally lays out his master plan to all involved they are speechless. Really....get kicked out of the military (honorably) or take the chance of dishonorable discharges....hmmm.
Under the guise of being sent to help repair things around the ranch Brian arrives at the ranch and it's fireworks from the first moment. Cass has a habit of lighting firecrackers when she is feeling overly emotional. Helps her keep a lid on her feelings so that she can stay in control.

Now there is so much going on as all the sister's are either dating inappropriate men or in Cass's case she has just broken up and fired the last overseer for stealing close to 30K from them. But she doesn't tell the General because he will take the ranch from them and/or be even more dictatorial. I don't know for being the one with common sense this shows that flew right out the window.
Big picture is that the girls and the ranch are being used for some very bad things. None of them have a clue what's going on until they are in the very middle of it then they can't believe what they let themselves get conned into. All the sister's are dating men who are part of a drug ring. From manufacturing to transporting the drugs. And none of them knew something was wrong???
End results....guy wins the girls heart, solves some of the problems the other sisters have AND teaches them that not all men are bad.
Ending was sort of expected. At the wedding the next sister set to walk down the aisle, Sadie, opens the door to Connor O'Riley...you guessed it...her future hubby. Wonder what miracles he is going to perform. I know that sounds a little cynical but some of this, well if it had happened over the course of two stories I might be able to buy into it but all at once? And it all fell into place? But like a train wreck I probably won't be able to stop myself from reading at least the next one to see how this couple fares. ( )

Cora Seton has yet again released book one of a new fantastic series. There is no cheating, a strong female lead character and an alpha male military man, who could ask for more.
This is book one so at the start there is a little groundwork laid for future books, including some history of the 5 daughters of a general and the general's 'team' he has working for him. The history of the relationship between the general and each daughter is hinted at but not really revealed as i imagine this will be developed in each daughters book.
This is Cass and Brian's book. Her story is quite sad and you are drawn into her difficult role as 'mother' to the rest of her sisters in the absence of both parents.
There was references to other characters from other books in the chance creek series which is fabulous, including Rose, who works in the jewelry shop.
Brian's life has not been easy either, with family pressure plus an issue regarding his career.
Not all questions are answered in this book although Brian and Cass have their HEA. Some issues are left to be resolved as the series progresses.
The reason i didn't give it 5 stars was there are several scenes about a stone and a maze, which their mother was involved in and this isn't my kind of thing but otherwise it was an excellent start to the series. ( )
