This is a very good critical analysis of T.S. Eliot and his poetry. Raine is a great defender of Eliot. Although it has been years since I read much of Eliot's poetry, I found that Raine easily brought me into what Eliot was trying to explore in his various major poems. There is an appendix on Eliot's supposed anti-Semitism, which Raine disposes of carefully, but not totally convincing. ( )
