XDefiant Won't Be Abandoned as Ubisoft Outlines Future Development Plans
The developers of XDefiant presented a roadmap and announced changes that will hit the game in the next three seasons.
Ubisoft isn't writing off XDefiant as a loss. The developers of the French publisher's free shooter have revised their game development plans for the initial year, encompassing the next three seasons. Netcode and hitreg to be fixed, progression on the way
The developers have announced additional improvements to the network code and hit registration system (hitreg). The devs have been working on it since launch, but they realize there is still a lot of work to be done. That is why the team of engineers responsible for rebuilding these elements has been expanded and is working on getting them back in order. The same goes for anti-cheat.
Furthermore, there are plans for the debut of Prestige mode and private servers – but only in the 3rd season. Some players aren't happy with this, as well as with the lack of a few "basic" options in ranked games. However, some other information evokes more positive reactions.
XDefiant doesn't die
What surprised players, however, was the inclusion of the fourth season of the game on the roadmap. Recently, there were reports that XDefiant's results didn't satisfy Ubisoft and the game lost most of its players. Some people had serious concerns about the future of this shooter.
Meanwhile, not only do the devs seem to be planning for the future, but they have also officially assured: "No, the game is absolutely not dying." Such a statement was found in a post published on the Ubisoft blog.
Executive producer Mark Rubin said that XDefiant is doing well. The team is aware of the game's shortcomings, including the more extensive progression system and netcode we mentioned earlier, but the devs want to address them to make the title perform even better.
Not all fans were calmed by this assurance. Some internet users cite ambitious development plans for Anthem – plans that were never realized. Additionally, there is a more recent example in the form of Concord, which also received a large roadmap. However, no matter how pessimistic we may be, XDefiant is definitely not doing as badly as the Firewalk Studios title.
