The USS Miranda (NCC-1800 or NCC-1860) was a 23rd century Federation starship, a Miranda-class medium cruiser[3] and class prototype in Starfleet service from the 2260s[4] decade. (Last Unicorn RPG module: The Price of Freedom)

Service history[]

The Miranda was named for a character from William Shakespeare's play The Tempest. Miranda was the daughter of Prospero. (ST reference: The Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed.)

One of the Miranda sister ships was the USS Prospero (NCC-1801). (TOS novel: Living Memory)

Another sister ship, the USS Reliant (NCC-1864), was in service by the year 2267. (TOS episode: "Court Martial")

USS Reliant

The USS Reliant in 2285.

The Miranda-class line of ships was soon updated to 2270s-era Starfleet technology. (STO website: House United: The Legendary Miranda Multi-Mission Cruiser)

This included a refit of the Miranda to the advanced configuration based on the Reliant. (ST video game: Legacy)

The Miranda was launched in 2283. (Decipher RPG module: Starfleet Operations Manual)

According to the RPG guide Starfleet Operations Manual, the Miranda was launched in 2283. This contradicts non-canonical reference works information that Miranda-class starships were in service prior to 2270. It may refer to the year of the ship's Reliant-class refit.

In the 24th century, the Miranda remained active and was classified as a medium cruiser. (ST reference: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual)

Miranda class variants

Legendary starships in 2411.

Following the end of the Klingon Civil War of 2411[5] in early 2411, the Miranda was among the light cruisers that received a refit to legendary starship classification. (STO - House United mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

The Miranda was upgraded to a tier 6 multi-mission cruiser specifications. (STO website: House United: The Legendary Miranda Multi-Mission Cruiser)

From that year onward, the Miranda represented the Miranda-class (Mk I) configuration in the Starfleet Shipyards Operations interface. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Khitomer Alliance flag officer in, or aligned with, Starfleet, deployed Miranda for missions around the galaxy's four quadrants as part of the four-quadrant strategy. (STO - New Dawn mission: "Admiralty System")
