Boltflash

Boltflash is a Decepticon-allied Mini-Con from the Armada portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family (via the 2008 Universe toyline).

Someone seriously needs to take a picture of 25th Ace pretending to fly this guy around the room.

Boltflash is a member of the Overcast Team. The only thing less impressive than Boltflash's IQ are his skills as a warrior. Add in the fact that he's also rather a coward and it's no surprise he hasn't risen very far in the ranks. His physical and weapon-based combat potential aren't really half-bad but... then again, in the hands of an awkward, cowardly dim-wit maybe they are at that.[1]

Universe (2008)

  • Mini-Con 12-Pack (Multi-pack, 2008)
  • Series: Armada Series
  • Known designers: Joe Kyde (deco artist)
Universe Boltflash is a redeco of Classics Thunderwing, transforming into an F-14 Tomcat swing-wing fighter jet. He has a "Powerlinx" socket on the back of his vehicle mode that allows him to attach to larger toys with compatible Powerlinx plugs.
He was originally only available as part of a Kmart-exclusive Mini-Con 12-pack, along with Backstop, Blight, Bodyblock, Brimstone, Cloudraker, Flatfoot, Heavytread, Knockdown, Makeshift, Skyhammer, and Suppressor.
This mold was also used to make Cybertron Nightscream, Noise Effect, Henkei! Henkei! Cybertron Sling, and Barrel Roll.

  • Boltflash (Mini-Con, 2009)
  • Series: Armada Series
Boltflash was also sold on an individual cardback, released through discount store chains like Big Lots! in the U.S. This version is identical to the multi-pack version.

  • Boltflash (Candy toy, 2010)
In the UK, all twelve Mini-Cons from the original "Mini-Con Class 12 Pack" set were released in individual blind-packed bags with "energon fizzy jellies" candies, distributed by The Little Factory Ltd.
This version of Boltflash is actually a new tooling with numerous tiny differences from the original, but is functionally the same toy. These changes include a thicker Mini-Con sigil print, altered production stamping (removing "Hasbro China" and "Takara" from them in favor of just "Hasbro"), smaller pin-heads on the steel connector pins, and generally less crisp molding.

Notes

  • According to the design notes released alongside the initial announcement for the 12-pack, Boltflash's name was inspired by both lightning imagery and the flash of a breech loading rifle.
  • Boltflash's deco appears to be based on the G.I. Joe Skystriker, in line with the rest of his team.
