The name or term "Silverbolt" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Silverbolt (disambiguation).
Silverbolt is an Autobot Aerialbot and later Maximal from the Generation 1 continuity family.

It's not the car or the bus or the train, it's the plane
When we hit top speed, it's always the same
Sweating red hot but chilled to the bone
Side to side, bouncing round the ozone
Tranquilise me! Hypnotise me!
Techno-fear has paralysed me
All around me, people grinning
Laughing while my head is spinning
Shaking like a leaf from my head to my feet
Strapped to a seat at 20,000 feet

Silverbolt's character is defined by his extreme fear of heights and by his refusal to bow to it. He constantly struggles to project the image of a brave, determined soldier to hide his fear from others. Optimus Prime named him leader of the Aerialbots in the hopes that worrying about them would give him something else to focus on besides his own phobia. This has proven true and, not surprisingly, the mature, responsible Silverbolt makes an excellent commander.

He can combine with his fellow Aerialbots to form Superion. In the future of some timelines, he will join forces with other veterans of the Great War to form Magnaboss, the final Autobot combiner.

"Our mission is accomplished. Further risk would be foolish."

"How come they made you Aerialbot leader, Silverbolt? You've got no sense of adventure."

"Exactly."

"So long, cruel world!" Actual episode quote. Seriously.

Silverbolt was constructed out of a low-flying cargo transport vessel, which was modified to resemble an Earthly Concorde. He was later given life by Vector Sigma, along with the other Aerialbots, then returned to Earth with the Autobots via Omega Supreme. It was soon discovered that Silverbolt had a crippling weakness: an intense fear of heights, due to his low-altitude origins. Conversely, he was the only Aerialbot who wasn't a complete jerk. Because of this, Optimus Prime made him commander of the Aerialbots, reasoning that it would give him something to worry about other than his acrophobia. He proved worthy of this role when he persuaded his mutinous teammates to help the Autobots protect humanity, by showing them how Sparkplug was able to disregard his fatigue at will due to his concern for Omega Supreme's well-being, something robots cannot do.

"Has anyone seen my lip balm?"

As the combined forces of the Autobots and Aerialbots sent the Decepticons into retreat, Silverbolt bravely went after Megatron and destroyed the Key to Vector Sigma, despite his great fear of heights. As he fell, he was saved at the last moment by Slingshot, who was impressed by his courage. The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 2

Silverbolt led his Aerialbots to the Middle East to discover why aircraft had been mysteriously disappearing from the area. As they flew over a canyon, Silverbolt detected a call from help down below, only to discover it was a Decepticon trick. The Decepticons retreated when Optimus Prime showed up, and Silverbolt pitched in to rescue Slingshot, who had been buried by Blast Off. Later on, Silverbolt and Air Raid fought the Decepticons and their drones. When the Combaticons merged into Bruticus, Silverbolt (after expressing disdain for Fireflight's late arrival) ordered his team to become Superion. After a bit of combiner-on-combiner action, the Aerialbots separated and ignited the oil that had spilled all around the Decepticons, scattering them. Aerial Assault

"In the future, you'll be a great Autobot leader."
"Sweet!"
"And I'm the key to your success."
"GET OUT."

When the Seekers captured half of the Earth's leaders, Silverbolt seemed to be the only one concerned, and he valiantly rescued the humans when Starscream dropped them. Back at the base, Ratchet and Silverbolt couldn't believe the other Aerialbots' admiration of the Decepticons, but that was cut short when strange energy readings were detected on Cybertron. Boarding Omega Supreme, Silverbolt went with the other Autobots to check it out, but when they arrived, the other Aerialbots were more interested in tagging along with Starscream. Rushing in to help his teammates, Silverbolt was placed with the others into the Kronosphere, where they were sent to Cybertron's past, before the Great War. There, he met a worker named Orion Pax, and Silverbolt was again frustrated by his fascination with Decepticons. When Orion Pax was injured by Megatron, Silverbolt and his team brought him to Alpha Trion, and at Silverbolt's insistence, the damaged Orion was rebuilt into Optimus Prime. Following that, the Aerialbots destroyed the Decepticons' fuel, and Wheeljack managed to repair the Kronosphere and return them to their time. Upon their return, Silverbolt ordered the Aerialbots to combine into Superion and take down a guardian robot Megatron had sicced on the Autobots. War Dawn

The Aerialbots were tasked with applying corrostop to the Statue of Liberty, but Perceptor was captured by Stunticons, leaving it up to the Aerialbots to locate him. They followed the Stunticons' escape vehicle, but Dirge and Ramjet scared Silverbolt's squad off by using their Lightning Bug. When Megatron offered to let Perceptor free at Fox Creek Canyon, Silverbolt was among the many Autobots to come with Prime to rescue their comrade. Later, Silverbolt commanded the formation of Superion, and in this combined form the Aerialbots defeated Menasor and destroyed the Lightning Bug. Cosmic Rust

After the death of Megatron and the retaking of Cybertron, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots became part of the Autobot Fleet. When Ultra Magnus, Kup and Spike were kidnapped to Quintessa, the rescue party alerted the Aerialbots to swoop by for covering fire and pick-up. By 2006, Silverbolt was showing far more confidence as a leader, and effectively coordinated the entire rescue operation. Briefly, he even grew so large that all the Autobots trapped on Quintessa's surface were able to board him. Whattaguy. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 2 When the Quintessons destroyed their own planet to get at the Autobots, the resulting blast wave destroyed the Aerialbots' ship, sending Silverbolt and the rest hurtling through space. They eventually impacted on Goo #8739B. That planetoid was so sticky, Silverbolt couldn't even blast free of its surface in jet mode. They were eventually rescued by Wreck-Gar and the Junkions. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 3

In the episode "Dark Awakening", several jets in the Autobot Fleet resembling the Aerialbots' alt modes were destroyed by the Quintessons. Repeatedly. Since the Aerialbots unquestionably survived the attack, it would seem their character models were merely used to build up the size of the fleet, and the casualty figures.

"Why are you the leader, Silverbolt? I've got a nicer paint job."
"Yes, but... a Concorde is bigger."

As a leader, Silverbolt was something of a killjoy to his fellow Aerialbots, encouraging moderation and self-control over daredevil flying and adventuring. During a battle against the Quintessons, Air Raid was eager to chase after the Quintessons and give them what-for, but Silverbolt insisted they stick with the mission and secure the asteroid base the Quintessons had been operating from instead. When Air Raid gave him some backtalk that basically amounted to "Pussyyyyy!", Silverbolt shrugged it off and reminded his comrades that THIS was why Prime put him in charge. Forever Is a Long Time Coming

Once, Air Raid led the Decepticon duo of Scourge and Cyclonus into an asteroid field where Silverbolt and his fellow Aerialbots were waiting to spring an ambush. The Aerialbots messed the Decepticons up pretty badly, especially after they transformed into Superion. Eventually, Silverbolt and the others chased the Decepticons through a strange warp in space. This proceeded to have no consequences for anyone whatsoever. Fight or Flee

Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were spending a relaxing day watching home movies on Teletraan II when things suddenly get serious, as the Autobots' computer off-handedly informed them Trypticon was never destroyed in his last battle with Metroplex. Sure enough, Silverbolt and Skydive were later present at the former site of Fort Knox, investigating Trypticon's handiwork on behalf of the King of Kings of Carbombya. When they tracked Trypticon to his new staging grounds, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots launched from Broadside, but the Decepticon presence in Carbombya was more than they had anticipated. The Aerialbots made a hasty retreat when confronted with overwhelming firepower, but soon returned with reinforcements and drove the Decepticons from Carbombya. Thief in the Night

During a battle in space, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots may or may not have been present. Superion, at least, was surely there on the planet Eurythma... sometimes. Carnage in C-Minor Silverbolt was definitely stationed at Autobot City, though, when Scourge and Starscream stole Metroplex's eyes. The massive Autobot was nearly driven mad with pain when the Decepticons set off a bomb in his brain, and Skydive, Silverbolt and Powerglide had to keep him contained so that his thrashing didn't destroy anything irreplaceable. Like Portland. Ghost in the Machine

No one tell him that space is really really high up.

After Sky Lynx took some hostile fire over the planet of Junk, Rodimus Prime dispatched Silverbolt and the Aerialbots to investigate. They were caught in a crossfire between the brain-addled Junkions and the Quintessons, who were responsible for messing with the Junkions' air waves, and their minds. Even after becoming Superion, the Aerialbots took heavy fire and had to be brought back to First Aid on Cybertron for repairs. The Big Broadcast of 2006

Normally, Silverbolt is the pinnacle of self-restraint and professionalism. One day, though, he congratulated Air Raid on strategically getting himself set on fire by Trypticon, and then personally flew down the monster's throat, throwing out laser bolts and imaginative taunts all the way down his gullet. Someone slipped a little too much caffeine into Silverbolt's oil that day. The Ultimate Weapon

During the Decepticon invasion of Japan, the Aerialbots fought against Astrotrain when he tried to derail a bullet train full of passengers. The Burden Hardest to Bear Sometime thereafter, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were recruited by Rodimus Prime to rescue the body of Optimus Prime from Swofford and Morgan. Unfortunately, this only meant they were among the first Autobots exposed to the hate plague. Despite the madness induced by the red dust, the Aerialbots were apparently still willing to form Superion. Superion ran amok, causing serious property damage, infecting Defensor, and taking several other Autobots out of action. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1

When the Decepticons invaded Cybertron searching for the Plasma Energy Chamber, the Aerialbots tried to stop them. Unfortunately, they didn't reckon with Sixshot. Silverbolt's team was taken down in a matter of seconds, with him being personally eliminated by Cyclonus, wielding Sixshot in gun mode. The Rebirth, Part 1 Silverbolt somehow survived Sixshot's direct hit, and was finally defeated two episodes later by Blast Off. The Combaticons then took his power pack to use as fuel for the giant rocket engine they were constructing for Galvatron. The Rebirth, Part 3

Scramble City
Voice actor: Tomomichi Nishimura (Japanese)

Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were dispatched from the Scramble City project by Ultra Magnus to aid Optimus Prime in battle with the Seekers and Devastator. Their aerial firepower frankly overwhelmed the marauding Decepticons, and sent them home with their transistors between their struts. On his second attempt, Megatron sent the Stunticons, who were considerably more successful in engaging the Autobots. Damaged in jet modes, Silverbolt the Aerialbots chose instead to merge and form Superion. As Superion, they possessed scramble combining abilities, but so did the Stunticons when they formed Menasor. The Aerialbots were in the midst of reconfiguring their limb formation when Fireflight, being...well, a daydreaming idiot, mixed up whether he was supposed to be the right leg or the left. His indecision gave Menasor time to shoot him down, and Wildrider assumed the place of Superion's right leg instead, corrupting his programming. Silverbolt and the others were trapped as Superion, literally fighting themselves, until Fireflight retook his place as Superion's limb. Scramble City: Mobilization

Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were stationed at Autobot City on Earth in 2011. When Galvatron attacked Cybertron via the old space bridge network, the Aerialbots were summoned to Cybertron as reinforcements. They soon arrived with the Trainbots and quickly joined the battle. Silverbolt and his team formed Superion and battled Abominus and Devastator. Four Warriors Come out of the Sky Later, the combined Aerialbots fought alongside Raiden and Defensor against the Decepticon combiners, and were nearly crushed when Bruticus collapsed a building on their position. They were bailed out by the arrival of the Battleship Maximus. When Hot Rod began his search for the Matrix of Leadership on Earth, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots returned to the humans' planet to assist him. They confronted the Stunticons in the desert, pitting Superion against Menasor yet again. The battle was so fierce, it eventually carried them to the Arctic, where Hot Rod was searching. The Mystery of Planet Master

Silverbolt and his flying comrades joined the Triple Changers in distracting the Decepticons long enough for Twincast to sneak inside Trypticon and gather data on the Madmachine. The Great Cassette Operation Sometime later, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were on a research vessel that passed near a strange meteorite. The meteorite had been altered by Galvatron to produce magnetic warping waves whenever it detected metal, and so it send the Aerialbots and their ship twisting through space. Although the Decepticons tried to intervene, the Autobots eventually recovered Silverbolt and his injured colleagues. Approach of the Demon Meteorite

Following a lengthy repair cycle, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were ready for action when Galvatron and the Decepticons laid siege to Cybertron one last time. Transporting to Cybertron from Earth, they raced into battle (on foot, for some reason). Silverbolt and the team got the drop on the Stunticons when they merged into Superion, smashing and scattering the 'Cons before they could form Menasor. Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 1 As the fighting continued, the Aerialbots battled Abominus as Superion and later separated to trade blaster fire with the Stunticons. The warring only came to an end once Scorponok's bombs blew up Vector Sigma and annihilated the planet.Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 2

Silverbolt was stationed at Autobot City when a volcano erupted in Peru, threatening a nearby town. Ultra Magnus sent out the Protectobots and Trainbots, but they ran into trouble with the Headmasters and Predacons. Silverbolt pleaded with Ultra Magnus to send his men in as reinforcements, but Magnus was worried about leaving the base unguarded by sending out too many of his troops. As Ultra Magnus wracked his brain trying to deal with the problem, the Autobot Headmasters had time to fly from Athenia. The Dormant Volcano Mysteriously Erupts

When a giant carnivorous plant attacked San Francisco, Ultra Magnus dispatched Silverbolt and the Aerialbots to combat it. Although they made frequent bombing runs on the organism, the Aerialbots were unable to stop it. Only the arrival of Fortress and his powerful giant Transtector brought an end to the creature's rampage. Head On!! Fortress Maximus Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were part of a strike team that flew to the moon to disrupt Scorponok's gathering of Decepticons. They immediately formed Superion upon entering the battle. Return of the Immortal Emperor

When one of Scorponok's Death Towers emerged in Washington D.C., Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were dispatched to investigate it. As part of Superion, Silverbolt participated in the Autobots final battle with Scorponok's Decepticons at the North Pole. He lent his energies to the Headmasters' Head Formation to revitalize Fortress Maximus at the critical moment. The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 2)

Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers comic

When the Protectobots confronted Menasor at a baseball stadium, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots arrived as back-up. They formed Superion to engage Menasor and Bruticus. After Defensor was injured, Superion targeted the Decepticon combiners' legs, shaking them loose and giving the smaller Protectobots a chance to link up with the Decepticon gestalts and override control of their bodies. Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers #5 After the Autobots discovered a utopia island paradise, it was besieged by Megatron and the Constructicons, who wanted to build an impregnable fortress. The Great Transformer War

In 2010, Galvatron kidnapped Doctor Dalton of Eran to utilize his skills and improve the Decepticons' combiner technology. Silverbolt and the Aerialbots joined the Protectobots in assaulting Trypticon, in hopes of rescuing the hostage scientist. Silverbolt and his team formed Superion for a first strike, but the Decepticon combiners countered with their deployment modes, launching the Stunticon and Combaticon troops with enough force to tear Superion apart. The Protectobots stood guard over Hot Spot as he performed battlefield triage on the Aerialbots in his repair bay mode, bringing them back online. Silverbolt then transformed into launcher mode and unleashed the Aerialbots in their own scramble attack, blinding Menasor and Bruticus long enough for the Autobots to escape safely with Dalton. Full Throttle Scramble Power!

The Decepticons, up to their usual tricks, threatened to plunder Earth's resources. Silverbolt asked Optimus Prime to allow his Aerialbots to deal with the Stunticons, currently attacking a power plant. Optimus was hesitant, as the other Autobots pointed out that the Aerialbots were too young and inexperienced to go out into the field for such daunting a task. Silverbolt pleaded his case, stating that the Stunticons were the Aerialbots' bitter rivals. After briefly contemplating the situation, Optimus allowed Silverbolt and his team to deal with the threat. The two teams met, and quickly combined into their gestalt forms to do battle. Though Superion was initially crippled by the Omega Wave Cannon, a new weapon controlled by the Decepticons, Superion held his own until the Autobots dispatched enough reinforcements to send the Decepticons fleeing. Thanks to his previous connection to the Creation Matrix, Buster Witwicky began experiencing dreams and visions of new Transformers, beginning with an etching of Superion he made without even being consciously aware of it. Devastation Derby!

Silverbolt's coming was then foretold in a Matrix-induced vision shared between Optimus Prime and Buster. Second Generation! In this prophetic vision, the par witnessed the Aerialbots coming to the Protectobots' aid to defend the Pullen Power Plant from the Combaticons and the Stunticons. All four teams merged into their gestalt forms throughout the clash. The Special Teams Have Arrived It was this vision which allowed Optimus Prime and Wheeljack to then conceive of and construct the Aerialbots. Second Generation!

THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!

The Aerialbots were then created when Bumblebee filmed Devastator's combining sequence. Using the Autobot Matrix of Leadership, Optimus Prime gave the Aerialbots life. While the Aerialbots were being tested, Prime ordered them to stop the Decepticon assault on the Hoover Dam.

The fight went well, but Dirge used his super-sonic ability to bring out a Transformer's deepest fear; it warped Silverbolt's fear of heights (ironic for an Aerialbot) and forced him to land. The Aerialbots prevailed in the fight, however, and as the Decepticons fled, Silverbolt combined them all to form Superion, trying to stop a Decepticon drill from absorbing all of the Hoover Dam's electricity.

Superion's reflex was to strike out and kill the human who held Megatron in his gun form, but Silverbolt mentally stepped in and prevented him from doing so. He forced the Aerialbots to disassemble. The human fired Megatron's gun at the drill, winning the day for the Autobots. Aerialbots over America!

"Wheeljack, did you unquestioningly kill the Aerialbots, as per my orders?"
"Yep—sure thing, Prime!"

Nonetheless, Silverbolt's mind was wiped along with his fellow Aerialbots shortly afterwards, due to Optimus Prime's dissatisfaction with the mission. Optimus then gave them life once more with the Creation Matrix, hoping their second activation would yield better results. Later, when Skids was transporting the human Donny Finkleberg on a scouting mission, they came under fire from the Stunticons. Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were sent to do battle with the new enemy team. Both combiners fused, creating Menasor and Superion. The fanatical robot-hating Josie Beller, also known as Circuit Breaker, fired upon Superion during the clash, crippling him heavily and leaving Menasor the victor. Heavy Traffic! Silverbolt and the Aerialbots, left unconscious in the battle's aftermath, were captured by Circuit Breaker and the government's anti-robot militia, Triple-I. As these humans' prisoners, the Aerialbots' bodies were disassembled for study, while their faces were mounted on Circuit Breaker's wall as trophies. They were only released, along with several other Autobot captives, after Circuit Breaker was forced to elicit their aid by combining them into a giant mechanical suit to defeat the Battlechargers. Decepticon Graffiti!

The Autobots several failures during one of Optimus's recent absences convinced the Autobot leader to fake his own death, in order to teach his soldiers how to survive without him. Silverbolt was among the Autobots who happened upon the remains of a facsimile construct of Prime, torn to shreds after a staged solo mission the later had taken on in Decepticon territory. Prey! A funeral was held for the Autobots' fallen leader, attended by all. At least, until Optimus spontaneously reappeared on Earth standing atop his headstone, and the whole matter was quickly forgotten. Aerialbots all fall down.jpg

Optimus Prime sent Silverbolt and the Aerialbots to back up Bumblebee as he investigated possible Decepticon activity at the unveiling of Power Station Alpha. They arrived just in time to see Bumblebee being blown away by the G.I. Joe team guarding the power station and combined into Superion in an attempt to retrieve Bumblebee's body. Blood on the Tracks Upon learning that Optimus Prime had died in battle while the Aerialbots were on their mission, Superion immediately disengaged and returned to the Ark. Power Struggle Silverbolt was one of the several Autobots who watched on as Ratchet futilely tried to repair Optimus Prime's body. Once the Autobot leader was declared irreparable, the Autobots held a funeral service for their leader, and launched his remains into space. Funeral for a Friend! Later, the Autobots united with both G.I. Joe and Cobra against the Decepticons, who planned to use Power Station Alpha to destroy the world. Silverbolt and the Aerialbots entered the battle and once more formed Superion, this time to defeat Devastator. ...All Fall Down!

"This must be a flashback... I'm in monochrome!"

They would battle Menasor again at a Blackrock plant, and this time the fusion worked so well everyone found out the others' weaknesses and neuroses. Horrified at his fear of heights being found out, Silverbolt drove Superion into a vicious, brutal fury. ...Perchance to Dream

Following this, Silverbolt and the other Aerialbots would come under Jetfire's command to investigate enemy activity in a small East Coast town. Little did the group suspect that Jetfire had been tasked with undermining them throughout the mission in order to test their psychological limits. Early on, Skydive and Air Raid teased Silverbolt over his displacement as team leader, unaware on how deep their words cut. Silverbolt became convinced that he was going to be stripped of his rank permanently.

Decepticon signatures were detected in short order, but any hope of forming an organized battle plan was dashed when Slingshot rushed a surprise attack. Silverbolt grumpily urged the others to join in, knowing full well that their teammate would find himself out of his depth if allowed to charge in alone. The Autobots were met with Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp siphoning electricity into energon cubes. The Decepticons' cache was detonated by a stray shot, and both Thundercracker and Skywarp managed to escape. Desperate to prove his worth, Silverbolt pushed himself to catch Starscream before Jetfire could. He got more than he bargained for, as Starscream shot Jetfire down, sending him into the nearby waters. Silverbolt was forced to call upon the other Aerialbots to combine into Superion, but the combiner proved as destructive and slow-witted as ever, and his target escaped. Despite the mission ending on a sour note, Jetfire gave the Aerialbots a positive review, having been unconscious during Superion's poor showing. The Return of the Transformers

Silverbolt eventually admitted his acrophobia to his fellow Autobots, but found support where he had expected ridicule. With his comrades assisting him, he eventually managed to overcome his fear of heights. The Magnificent Six!

After the death of Optimus Prime, Silverbolt was among several Autobots gathered to determine who would next lead their forces. The meeting was interrupted by the Dinobot Grimlock, who demanded that command was handed to him. The other Autobots dismissed him at first, but when Grimlock proved himself a worthy leader against Trypticon, they reevaluated their opinion of the Dinobot. After Trypticon was driven off, Silverbolt and the rest of the Autobots voted Grimlock to take command. King of the Hill!

As Grimlock took over the Autobots, Silverbolt and the other Aerialbots took an extended leave of absence from the war, since the Dinobot commander focused Autobot resources on repairing their fallen comrades and prepping the Ark to become spaceworthy again. The Autobot craft launched into orbit in pursuit of Blaster, who had been partaking in overtly mutinous behavior. Though the Autobots managed to capture Blaster's spaceship, within it they only found a quartet of small human children and a stuffed bear. In order to draw out his real target, Grimlock put the humans on trial, a procession which Silverbolt attended. He was visibly displeased when Grimlock sentenced the kids to death for aiding Blaster, though thankfully this was all a ruse on Grimlock's end to draw Blaster into the open. Spacehikers!

Silverbolt disembarked with the rest of the Earth-bound Autobots from the Ark onto Earth's moon, where he and the other Autobots witnessed a battle for leadership between Grimlock and Blaster. This was a moment of opportunity for Ratbat's Decepticons, who attacked Silverbolt and the others on the moon's surface. Though the Decepticons struck a devastating first blow, Blaster and Grimlock managed to temporarily put aside their differences in order to lead their troops together. Though many Autobots were severely damaged, the Decepticons were successfully pushed into a retreat. Totaled!

Silverbolt dreadwing down.jpg

When an battle between Getaway and Quake resulted in a human getting critically injured, a life-support system was put together to keep the injured party alive. But when Throttle stole the power cell needed to power said system, Silverbolt sent out Fireflight and Skydive to chase him down and retrieve the battery. The two Aerialbots botched the mission, with Dreadwing, Throttle's vehicle, winding up on the ocean floor along with the thief's loot. A team headed by Optimus was forced to take on the arduous task of heading underwater, and battle the Seacons to retrieve the power cell before the human in their care succumbed to his injuries. Upon their success, Silverbolt flew over to their location and gave them a lift back to dry land. Dreadwing Down!

When an Underbase-powered Starscream announced that he would "destroy the cities of New York, Tokyo, and Buenos Aires," Silverbolt was among the allied Autobot/Decepticon teams sent ahead to New York City. He didn't get much of a chance to battle the villain, as he was blasted out of the sky upon his initial approach, resulting in his death. Dark Star Silverbolt was kept in stasis aboard the Ark with the other Underbase casualties and a resurrected Optimus Prime considered reviving Silverbolt with a fragment of the Matrix, before ultimately deciding to give the gift of life to the planet Earth instead. The Greatest Gift of All!

LastAutobot-Silverbolt.jpg

After obtaining Nucleon from Hydrus 4, Grimlock indiscriminately pumped the restorative substance through the Ark's life support chambers, reviving Silverbolt along with other fallen Autobots. Silverbolt and the others were immediately shoved into battle against Unicron. On the Edge of Extinction! Following Unicron's defeat, it was discovered that Cybertron had only avoided being devoured to crumble apart anyways; Primus's consciousness had been sundered during the battle, and without it, Cybertron was losing its cohesion. Silverbolt attended a meeting where it was decided that the now allied Autobots and Decepticons would evacuate the planet. Exodus! The Decepticons, having quickly given up on the alliance, tried to strand the Autobots on Cybertron as it self-destructed, but Grimlock had hidden away a small fleet of Decepticon warships. Silverbolt, suffering Prowl's impatient badgering, piloted one of the warships to Klo for a last stand against the Decepticons. The Last Autobot? Unfortunately, the Autobots stumbled into an ambush as soon as they made landfall. Silverbolt was among the many casualties of this battle, his battered-up corpse seen littering the battlefield afterwards. He was presumably resurrected by the Last Autobot, who arrived alongside a revived Optimus Prime to turn the tide and send the Decepticons running off into exile. End of the Road!

Galvatron succeeded in reactivating Silverbolt and several others, but failed to command their loyalty, and they turned his own mind bug technology against him. ...Perchance to Dream When Optimus Prime took the Ark out into space shortly thereafter, leaving Grimlock in charge of Autobot activity on Earth, Silverbolt joined the new Earthforce in opposing the remaining Decepticon factions, led by Megatron and Shockwave. Perhaps at Silverbolt's request, the other Aerialbots were also revived in short order, and joined Earthforce as well. When Wheeljack's new defense grid for the Earthbase went awry, Silverbolt assembled the Aerialbots to fly air support for Prowl as he attempted to re-enter the base and shut down the system from the inside. The House that Wheeljack Built!

Sometime later, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots were operating as Superion when Bombshell zapped them with a cerebro-shell, causing the super-robot to rampage through the countryside. A human named Irwin Spoon eventually managed to climb inside and remove the shell from Superion's cerebral circuitry. Inside Story!

Optimus selected six of his finest warriors, Silverbolt among them, to travel to the Acid Wastes and investigate the ruins of the Underbase located there. With Unicron approaching their homeworld, Optimus hoped to use the Underbase's connection to Cybertron's core as a substitute for the Creation Matrix in battling the evil planet. Though Silverbolt was eager to do his part, Jazz, Prowl, Sunstreaker, Inferno, and Wheeljack made excuses not to go. Frustrated over this apparent show of cowardice, Optimus sent them all along despite their objections. As they traveled through Stanix, Silverbolt found himself needing to prod along his hesitant companions. However, all attempts to move them forward failed once they reached Yuss. Silverbolt puzzled out that the others had lived through a traumatic experience in the town, but was accosted by a swarm of mutated mechs before he could inquire the subject. The leader of the mutants revealed himself to be Megadeath, the Decepticon responsible for the others' past trauma. Silverbolt was knocked out and the group was taken captive.

Magnificent Six the end.jpg

When he awoke, Silverbolt found that the others' disposition had yet to improve. In an attempt to shock them out of their self-pity and despair, he mocked his compatriots, calling them "the Autobots' resident losers." This actually worked, and the others told him how, early in the war, Megadeath had tortured and humiliated them to their breaking point. When they had finally managed to escape, they crippled Megadeath and left him to die. Regrettably, they failed to disarm the Neutronic bombs that went on to transform the area into the Acid Wastes and mutate its inhabitants. Silverbolt convinced his comrades that they were stronger than they thought, and the group's confidence slowly returned.

While Silverbolt freed the mutant mechs from Megadeath's psychological control and guided them out of the area, Prowl and the others sought to excise their demons by confronting their torturer. After his task was done, Silverbolt returned to witness his teammates' battle, fearing they would break the Autobot code if left unsupervised. The Autobots stopped short of delivering a killing blow, but Megadeath committed suicide instead of allowing himself to face justice for his war crimes. Having found closure, the Autobots continued on with their mission, and reached the former site of the Underbase with their new wards in tow. The Magnificent Six!

Another Time & Place

Silverbolt was part of the Autobot force who travelled to Hydrus Four to rescue the Dinobots. Along with his fellow Aerialbots, Air Raid and Skydive, he performed a bombing run on the Decepticon-held medcenter where they were trying to revive Megatron. Another Time & Place

After receiving reports from Sky Lynx that strange goings-on were happening around the planet of Junk, Rodimus Prime sent the Silverbolt and the Aerialbots to investigate. Encountering a Quintesson Cruiser above the planet, they formed Superion, who fired his jets at the ship's force fields. The resultant explosion not only damaged the Quintesson craft but also knocked Superion unconscious. He was recovered by Sky Lynx, who returned him to Cybertron for repairs. Marvel Generation 2 comic

Jazz silverbolt prowl escalation.jpg

After the defeat of Bludgeon and his Decepticons on Klo, the Autobots split into smaller combat units throughout the universe. Once Optimus Prime and Grimlock learned of the threat posed by the second generation Cybertronian army, though, the Autobot forces reconsolidated under their command. Slingshot and the other Aerialbots were first seen after the Autobots had retreated to an asteroid sanctuary for retraining. They were, um, outsmarted by Hot Rod during the war games, and led into a Dinobot ambush. The Power and the Glory

Later, when Grimlock decided to countermand Prime's orders and come to his aid against the Decepticons on Earth, Silverbolt was part of the rescue team he assembled. The Gathering Darkness Optimus recuperated from his injuries for a few days afterwards, only for Megatron to burst into the medical bay following a brief off-world absence. Silverbolt rushed to Optimus's aid, only to find that Megatron had come to forge an alliance. Optimus accepted, but the Autobots were soon called to the planet Ethos to repel invaders, a conflict Megatron refused to involve himself in. Tales of Earth Part Five The Autobots found the culprit behind the invasion once more to be Jhiaxus's army, and Silverbolt helped in staving off an impeding genocide. The Autobots found themselves outmatched, but managed a victory when Megatron decided to have the Decepticons join the fray after all. Escalation! Silverbolt was also involved in the major offensive against the Cybertronians at Autobase Earth. Total War!

"I would just like to say a few words about nudity in the world today. And I, for one, am just appalled by it."

Deciding that there was no more room for rogue heroics among the Autobot ranks after he had been given command of Cybertron, Prowl traveled to Azure alongside Silverbolt and Ironhide to reel Grimlock back into the Autobot forces. The trio tracked down Slag and Sludge and arranged through them a meeting with their leader. This meeting wound up being cut short by a distress call from Earth, and Grimlock agreed to accompany the Autobots aboard the Graviton to respond to it. Grimlock's profile in Club magazine #50

During their journey, the Graviton was pulled into the Primax -408.24 Epsilon universe and deposited near that universe's prehistoric Earth. After being shot down by the Talon, the Autobots adopted organic alternate modes to survive the ambient Energon radiation, with Silverbolt taking the form of an eagle. Shattered Time After discovering that three stasis pods were missing from the ship, the Autobots went in search of them, only to find Megatron had found them first. Silverbolt, Ironhide and Prowl were bombarded by the newly activated Autojetter, and it was only the arrival of Depth Charge and the recovery of Ultra Magnus that saved them. Shattered Expectations

I don't even know what my weapons are supposed to be doing!

The Autobots retreated across a rock bridge, and watched as Magnus faced off against Megatron, dealing their foe a temporary defeat. Back at the Graviton, Depth Charge gave the "Maximals" more of an explanation regarding his presence. Shattered Paths When they located their missing energy purifier, the Maximals went out to fetch it. Despite the new ability of Ironhide, Prowl, and Silverbolt to merge into Magnaboss, they were trounced by God Neptune. Shattered Hope Returning to the ship, the Maximals fueled up before joining Depth Charge, who had located the Matrix he was seeking. The Maximals kept a security system occupied long enough for Magnus to retrieve the Matrix in question, however a short time later they were confronted by Megatron piloting a giant mech. Shattered Balance Silverbolt again took part in merging into Magnaboss, but the combiner was soundly defeated by Megatron's Gigastorm Armor. The Maximals were moments later pulled into a dimensional rift created by Ultra Magnus. Shattered Destiny

Silverbolt and his comrades arrived on modern-era negative-polarity Cybertron, where the Cliffjumper of their reality brought them up to speed. Falling into Place After being retrofitted with technological alt modes again by Needlenose and Spinister, Silverbolt traveled to positive-Earth to bolster the forces against the evil Ultra Magnus and his Terminus Blade. Following the infusion of Nucleon into his systems, Silverbolt blacked out during a hypersonic burn and shot away into space, only being saved by Sky Lynx's fast reactions. Destiny, Part Two Sometime around 2007, he was being kept in stasis in the Nursery alongside Blaster, Slag, Huffer and Inferno. Natural Selection, Part One

Blaster silverbolt destiny.jpg

Once Grimlock had returned from Nebulos with technology developed by the resurrected Scorponok, new bodies were constructed for Silverbolt, Blaster, Inferno and Huffer and they were kept in the maxi-malady (secure) unit known as "The Garage" for testing, though Silverbolt and the others railed against this inactivity. Soon enough, Blaster hacked into Soundwave's communications grid, alerting the Neo-Decepticon commander to the recuperating Autobots' interference and the Mayhem Attack Squad were dispatched to eliminate them. They defended themselves admirably, though Silverbolt was wounded by Carnivac's napalm during the battle, only being saved by Inferno's quick reactions. Having proved themselves, they rejoined the Autobots proper. Destiny, Part Two

Reunited with the rest of the Aerialbots, Silverbolt was sent on a mission to investigate a Neo-Decepticon threat but Prowl called them back before they encountered any resistance. Destiny, Part Three Soon afterwards, Bludgeon's Warworld attacked Cybertron and Silverbolt, along with pretty much every other flying Autobot, was deployed in response. Destiny, Part Four This massed attack proved to be a feint to distract the Warworld from the Wreckers, who successfully boarded and neutralised the Decepticon mothership. Destiny, Part Five Once Rodimus Prime had sealed off their universe from the multiverse to defeat the Matrix entity, all surviving Cybertronians were rendered mortal, presumably including Silverbolt, who eventually died of old age. The War to End All Wars, Part 5

The Special Teams

Silverbolt was created on Cybertron, where Vector Sigma first ignited the spark of life within him. Silverbolt, and the rest of the Aerialbots were nearly convinced to join the Decepticons upon their initial alliance with the Autobots. This was due to a fault in the Aerialbots’ programming, present due to a sudden drop in the mega-computer when they were being created. Silverbolt was capable of stripping electrons from air particles as he flew, and then discharging the build of energy as a weapon. The Aerialbots were sent over by Optimus to help the Protectobots defend the Pullen Power Plant from the Decepticons. Happening upon Bruticus and Menasor teaming-up to take on Defensor, the Aerialbots combined into Superion to even the odds. Bruticus fell early in the battle, prompting the Aerialbots to separate and give chase to Starscream while Defensor took over the fight with Menasor. The Special Teams

Ladybird Books continuity

When an Autobot salvage expedition was unexpectedly ambushed by Decepticons, Ultra Magnus became concerned that the Cons had developed a new form of surveillance. Silverbolt suggested his men perform a full scan of the area for any spy installation. The Aerialbots were unable to locate any sites on the ground, but a ghost of a radar contact at high altitude caught their attention. Forming Superion, they flew as high as possible and confirmed that something was out there in the upper atmosphere. Galvatron's Air Attack

Dreamwave Generation One continuity

Silverbolt and his fellow Aerialbots became one of the first Autobot "Special Teams" several million years ago, adopting the process used to create Devastator in order to become Superion. The unchecked destructive power of these super-robots was eventually recognized by the Autobot and Decepticon factions, however. By the time of the Dark Ages, the Crisis Intervention Accord had been ratified, strictly forbidding Special Teams from operating together on any given faction, in order to prevent these titans from tearing the planet apart. War Within: The Dark Ages

Although they were apparently not part of the Ark's original crew, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots somehow arrived on Earth and were part of Optimus Prime's unit in the 1980s. The war on the human homeworld raged until 1998 when the Decepticons were finally defeated, and in the following year, the Ark II was constructed to take the Transformers home. However, the ship was sabotaged by the rogue engineer-turned arms dealer Adam Rook, known as Lazarus, and General Robert Hallo, who planned on reprogramming the Transformers into the service of the United States military. The Aerialbots were some of the few Transformers who were not recovered by Lazarus for his reprogramming venture, now aimed at hiring out the Transformers to the highest bidder. Instead, they lay immobile in the Arctic waters until reactivated as Superion in 2002 by Optimus Prime, using the power of the Matrix of Leadership. Prime Directive #2

Silverbolt and the Aerialbots in their Superion form, battled the Decepticons in the Northwest Territories of Canada Prime Directive #3 and again in San Francisco. During the latter conflict, Superion was broken down into his individual components while battling Devastator and the Seekers. Prime Directive #4 When Megatron failed to convince Optimus Prime to join his cause, Silverbolt and his team were freed and eventually reunified in order to intercept a nuclear missile (launched by General Hallo) headed for the California coastline. Superion, and by extension the Aerialbots, were destroyed in stopping the missile. Prime Directive #6

Silverbolt Law and Disorder.jpg

Before the war, Silverbolt was a law enforcer and member of captain Orion Pax's team, serving as their eye in the sky and participating in the capture of Swindle. Law and Disorder During their hunt for the Decepticon spy Soundwave, he reported to Orion where their target was headed and the failed attempts of the other Autobots at taking him down. Once everyone else was defeated or distracted, Silverbolt went after Soundwave on his own, only to crash when Ratbat ripped off his port stabilizer. The Hunt for Soundwave He later participated in the search for the insurgent Hot Rod, but was unable to assist his teammates after they entered the maze-like Acropolex. Ruins After Orion Pax had become Optimus Prime, Silverbolt and his Aerialbots responded to his rallying call for additional support against the Decepticons and fought against the Seekers in the battle over Iacon. When Trypticon began his rampage across Cybertron, Silverbolt first provided aerial surveillance and later led the Aerialbots in an attack that served to collapse a building on top of the beast. His bedside manner could use some work...

Silverbolt was one of the Autobots who took part in a battle for Junkion under the command of Prowl. The skirmish went nowhere and both sides were forced to abandon the world when their war tore it asunder. A Lonely Pillar on the Plain

In the modern era, with Optimus Prime leading the Autobots in the field, Silverbolt became Operation Commander on the Autobot Orbital Command Hub; Perceptor was one of his senior officers. He was involved in trying to find the attempted assassin of Blaster, deducing the assailant had to be an Autobot. To catch the would-be killer, Silverbolt and Blaster concocted a plan where the Autobot morale-booster set himself as bait. Silverbolt and his men waited as backup while Blaster dealt with the assassin (who turned out to be a mind-controlled Beachcomber), but he nearly stormed into the room when he saw that "the Voice" was not armed with a weapon. Several years later, Silverbolt was mentioned as being on Earth by Bumblebee. New Arrivals, Old Encounters

Most of the Autobots eventually left Earth, returning to Cybertron to fight Galvatron's army. When Galvatron began to fire at the planet's surface using Kimia Facility's particle cannon, Silverbolt led all available flying Autobots in an attack on the facility. Though he didn't know what Galvatron was targeting, he knew the barrage had to be stopped, and volunteered to destroy Kimia by tossing explosives into its barrel. He didn't need to, as it was soon blown up by Autobots on the inside. Numbers

Silverbolt Angry Stick Together.jpg

After the Chaos war, Silverbolt's fellow Aerialbot Barrel Roll died in an explosion and Silverbolt, unable to trust any Decepticons after four million years of war, blamed the survivor, Dirge and would've killed the Decepticon if not for Wheeljack spoiling his aim. Shortly after the incident, Bumblebee agreed to accept Starscream into the government, which made Silverbolt even more furious. He attacked Bumblebee and Prowl before announcing that he and his Aerialbots were leaving Bumblebee's government. Stick Together

Shortly after leaving Iacon behind and traveling into the untamed wilderness Cybertron had become, the Aerialbots were the first to fall victim to Megatron's experiments with a combiner energy that influenced their minds and made them turn on each other. Before the Dawn Silverbolt's comrades teamed up to attack him, though he himself remained immune for a time, something he believed to be a side effect of him never truly feeling like part of the team. He avoided their attacks for three days before he too began to feel the effects and made a recording of his experiences as a warning to whoever came next. Night and the City Ironhide, sent out to find the lost Aerialbots, first discovered a broken wing belonging to their Silverbolt, Dinobot Hunt but by the time he tracked the warning message to its source, he found the Aerialbot leader had succumbed to the influence and, to cope, merged with his team into a single being: Superion. Night and the City

Leading the motley group of Autobots back to Iacon, Superion took part in the ensuing battle against Megatron's resurgent Decepticons, but fell in battle against a Prowl-controlled Devastator. The surviving Aerialbots, still combined, were left comatose and reliant on life support, Three Monologues and remained that way for some time until Starscream, hoping to recruit a combiner of his own, got his hands on the Enigma of Combination. Thanks to the efforts of Wheeljack, the team was brought back online, with two new members to replace the fallen Slingshot. First Contact

As part of Starscream's larger political games, Silverbolt and the new Aerialbots were deployed to the planet Caminus to stop Menasor, who Starscream had deliberately unleashed on the planet to cause chaos. Silverbolt was less than enthusiastic about having to combine again, although Superion was able to dispatch the Stunticon combiner. The team was easily able to dispatch the Stunticons, The Sum and Its Parts and remained on Caminus to use their combined strength to help with the subsequent cleanup. The Possible Light Following another clash with Prowl's Devastator form, Superion was bested and collapsed into his components. Starscream thought otherwise and used the Enigma to forcibly reintegrate them back together. Mistakes and Mayhem

EdgeOfTheEarth AerialbotsAttacked.jpg

As the Council of Worlds took shape, Optimus Prime expressed concern that Superion hadn't separated back into his original components. Prowl, having experienced the addictive power of combination firsthand, remarked that Superion was the new default form for the Aerialbots. You, Me, and the Universe Though the Aerialbots were evidently happiest as Superion, they disassembled themselves from time to time after Superion joined Prime's peacekeeping forces on Earth. In one such instance, Silverbolt and the Aerialbots performed a horticultural "bombing run" in the Middle East, releasing fast-growing plants to help feed the local humans. Silverbolt and the Aerialbots then fled the air resistance they faced, reluctantly holding to Prime's orders to not engage any human counter-strikes. Edge of the Earth

AsAboveSoBelow SuperionIsDead.jpg

As Optimus and Soundwave moved to take out Galvatron's rogue Decepticon cabal, Superion and Victorion provided support for the alliance. They discovered, however, that the Decepticon conqueror had managed to co-opt the source code of the Enigma, granting him the power to merge and separate Cybertronians at will. Able to resist its deleterious effects, Superion managed to nullify Galvatron's weapon by copying a fraction of the interconnected code into his neocortex and splitting himself apart. Unable to re-combine for fear of restoring the power of Galvatron's enigma, Silverbolt announced that Superion was "dead." As Above...So Below He and the other triumphant Autobots were subsequently evacuated from the battle. White Light

Silverbolt and the Aerialbots returned to Cybertron and took to the skies when Onyx Prime descended on their homeworld in his personal vessel. Another Mine He was also part of Optimus Prime's fleet that confronted Unicron and the Maximal army in orbit above Caminus. Last Stand Silverbolt engaged Unicron's forces again when the planet-eater attacked Cybertron. Our Finest On Earth, he combined with his fellow Aerialbots into Superion to help defeat Unicron for good. Ceremony

Silverbolt was present at Metroplex when the Decepticons attacked. Two Giant Bases! Everybody Getting Along, Come On, Fight!

The Aerialbots responded to another attack on Metroplex by Bruticus, Devastator, and Predaking, though Silverbolt refused to fight in plane mode because of his fear of heights and had them form Superion instead. The Decepticon combiners exploited his weakness by tossing Superion into the air, scaring him too much to fight, but the Aerialbots separated and recombined on ground level where Superion could safely dispatch the Decepticons by rolling at their legs. 2006 IDW Beast Wars continuity

As the Great War drew to a close, Silverbolt, Prowl, and Ironhide received news that, in a final and terrible confrontation, both Optimus Prime and Galvatron had perished. These three, and the rest of the Autobot high council, divided leadership duties over the Autobots between themselves, and took on the post of "Primal Council" in the process. Prime's death hit Silverbolt especially hard, and he proposed to the other council-members that they take the time to recover from this blow to their morale. He was overruled by Prowl, who proposed they extend an olive branch to the remaining Decepticon troops in an effort to end the war without further bloodshed. The rest of the council agreed to try out Prowl's plan, much to the frustration of the last surviving member of "Unit-3." Despite this upstart's aggressive protests, an operative from Unit-2 was sent out to approach the remaining generals in the Decepticon army amicably. But other troubles loomed ahead, including a report from the late Perceptor that transwarp reactions had been detected en-masse recently.

Maximalimperium.jpg

One general in the enemy force refused the Autobots' call for peace. Having renamed himself "Megatron," he led Predaking, among others, on a rampage. This forced SIlverbolt and the other members of the council to intervene personally. Silverbolt joined forces with Prowl, Ironhide, Unit-3, and Tigatron to form the gestalt Magnaboss, and pushed back as transwarp energy rained down on Cybertron, turning all those it struck into a fluctuating quantum state. Thankfully, the higher-ups in the Decepticon hierarchy then arrived on the battlefield, and elected to surrender to the Autobots. Thereafter, the Pax Cybertronia was signed, ushering an era of peace on Cybertron. Dawn of the Predacus

Though Silverbolt's aerial insecurities became mostly a thing of the past, he still muttered a short prayer or mantra every time he took flight. Though taking to the air might bring about some queasiness in him still, Silverbolt believed that courage was not the absence of fear, but the ability to overcome it. Beast Wars Sourcebook

Some time into the Pax Cybertronia, Silverbolt became a member of the Maximal counterpart to the Tripredacus Council, presiding over the Maximal Imperium alongside former Autobot teammates Ironhide and Prowl. The three of them sent Ikard to request a report from Big Convoy, but he refused, citing his need to investigate the Angolmois-fueled murders. The Ascending #2

When the Autobots learned that the Decepticons were planning to create a new batch of Decepticons, the Autobots responded by returning to Cybertron and building the Aerialbots. Both they and the Stunticons were brought to life at the same time before Vector Sigma, and Silverbolt and the Aerialbots fought to defend the supercomputer from the Decepticons. Though it seemed that the Decepticons might win thanks to the power of Menasor, the Aerialbots managed to rout the Decepticons and chase them away. The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 1 Silverbolt and the rest of the Aerialbots clashed against the Stunticons once more on Earth, when the Decepticons attempted to use the power of the Key to Vector Sigma to transform the planet into a new Cybertron. He and his teammates merged into Superion, and they were ultimately victorious. Though the Decepticons attempted to flee with the key, Silverbolt gave chase, and was able to destroy the device, ending its treat to Earth. Key to Vector Sigma, Part 2

Silverbolt and his Aerialbot team managed to drive Nemesis Prime into a retreat after this twisted creation of Doctor Arkeville was unleashed on the world. Nemesis Rising They had similar success intercepting Motormaster's convoy, which was trying to deliver part of a super weapon to Decepticon HQ. The Aerialbots' attack resulted in the Decepticons destroying their own weapon to keep it out of Autobot hands. Eagle Eyes The Aerialbots were trapped by the Decepticons and sent back through time through a Chronogon portal. Encountering the archivists Orion Pax and Ariel, the team took the injured pair to Alpha Trion following an attack on the Iacon Archives. Trion helped the team return to present day, where Silverbolt told Optimus Prime and Elita One about their adventure. Golden Age

Though Silverbolt projects the image of a brave, grimly determined warrior - as befitting his role as Aerialbot Commander - he's actually afraid of heights, a phobia he masks but has never quite conquered. The illusion of aerial ease is helped by his sleek, aerodynamic jet form, making him seem a natural-born flyer. Rather than show any emotional weakness, Silverbolt keeps his eyes firmly on the horizon. Never down. Silverbolt bio

Originally designed for the aborted Diaclone line Jizai Gattai (自在合体 "Limitless Combination") and then brought over to the Transformers toyline, The Transformers Silverbolt transforms into a Concorde SST jet liner, and also has a third launcher/base mode for use with other smaller Autobot toys. In Silverbolt's base mode, there are the remains of a launching mechanism, made to launch said smaller Autobot vehicles down the ramp, à la Optimus Prime's trailer—though, like most spring-powered gimmicks in the US Transformers market at the time, the springs were gutted, leaving a flopping piece in the center of his robot mode chest when the "Blast Shield" chest plate isn't attached. The Takara release of the figure features this missing spring-loaded action.
Completely undocumented from the instructions: the "Blast Shield" chest plate piece is also intended for Silverbolt's robot mode, not just Superion's combined mode, as evidenced by the molded crotch-guard, the designated sticker details that are covered up by Superion's own separate crotch-guard piece in combined mode, and his character model and package art. This—combined with the fact that all of the other combiner torso-bots don't use their respective combiner chest plate pieces as parts of their individual robot modes—has lead many to believe that Silverbolt's chest/torso is just a flat, detailless ramp. In another undocumented feature, Silverbolt's "Electrostatic Discharger Rifle" can also attach to a peg hole on the underside of the chest plate piece, presumably to create a drone of some kind to function with his ramp mode, much like Motormaster's "Roller car". As the original four "Scramble City" combiner teams were intended for the Diaclone toyline, it is entirely possible this was a left over feature from prototypes based directly on Diaclone concepts, in a similar vein to Powered Convoy's/Ultra Magnus's chest-plate-and-head vehicle intended for the pilot robots of the Diaclone toyline.
A particular weakness of Silverbolt's design is the way both his legs are connected to his hips by a long pin going through several very small (and weak) plastic hinges that are put under a lot of stress, as the immediate joint underneath this assembly is a swivel used during transformation.
Silverbolt's hands use rare 4 mm pegholes rather than the 3 mm holes standard on smaller robots or the 5mm holes of larger Transformers (including his fellow "Scramble City" torso robots), which limits him to wielding his own rifle or the weapons from the few other characters who share this size, these being Hot Rod, Blurr, Kup, Scourge, and Springer. Silverbolt was also available in a gift set with his Aerialbot teammates.
In Japan, the entire "Airbot" team were later offered (as individual purchases) as mail-order items in US packaging during Return of Convoy in 1991. Silverbolt cost 2000 yen and three Robot Points, and did not include the spring in the base mode launching mechanism, unlike the original Japanese release.

Much like the "Generation 1" releases of the toy, the instructions neglect to show the chest plate being used for his individual robot mode. This version also lacks the spring in the launching mechanism.

House the people living on the street. Shoe the children with no shoes on their feet.
  • Magnaboss (Ultra Class multi-pack, 1997)
The eagle Silverbolt toy represents both the original Autobot and a latter-day Maximal.
Beast Wars Silverbolt transforms from an eagle into a robot, with portions of his wings turning into a pair of swords. Each wing also contains a spring-loaded missile launcher. He is able to combine with Ironhide and Prowl, his package buddies, forming part of the torso and helmet to the giant robot Magnaboss.
This mold was used to make Beast Wars II Skywarp.
The Magnaboss toy included no information about its 3 components beyond their names. The toy was established in 2007 by IDW to represent the Generation 1 character Silverbolt a decade after its release. By contrast in 2016, Beast Wars: Uprising characterized this toy as an independent Maximal, Silver Bolt. In 2021, the Earth Wars mobile game would follow suit in depicting eagle Silverbolt as a separate individual from jetliner Silverbolt.
Silverbolt most certainly suffers from the dreaded Gold Plastic Syndrome. Thankfully he is not one of the more common cases and most Silverbolts have survived many years of playwear. Unlike, say, Slingshot.

Will the new size class solve his long-running scale problems? Only time will tell...
  • Silverbolt (Ultra Class, 2008)
    • Series: Classic Series
    • Accessories: "Electron Bolt Rifle", "Electron Bolt"
Part of the second wave of 2008 Universe Ultra-class toys, Silverbolt transforms into a stylized XB-70 Bomber.[1] As an Ultra Class toy, he comes with various light and sound gimmicks (exactly the same ones as Universe Powerglide), including a machine gun type sound when one presses the big red button on the fuselage, and different classic transformation sound effects depending on whether he is being transformed from vehicle mode to robot mode or vice versa. His spring-loaded missile-launching blaster features a B-2 Stealth bomber as a decorative shape. His BOLT-25 markings reference both his name and the twenty-fifth (silver) anniversary of the Transformers brand.
The Japanese TakaraTomy version of Silverbolt was released in American Universe packaging as a USA Edition toy. He is redecoed to more closely resemble the his appearance in the original The Transformers cartoon, with most of his grey plastic parts now cast in a bright shade of off-white. The red paint applications on his chest are now a match for his red plastic parts, resulting in a unified look as opposed to the two-tone chest of the Universe version.
This mold was also used to make Darkwind and Skyfall and was the basis of the non-toy Shattered Glass version of Thunderwing.

A redeco of the Legends Class Cybertron Thundercracker toy, Silverbolt transforms into a Sukhoi Su-37 fighter jet. He was only available in a Target-exclusive gift set along with Legends-class versions of Hot Zone, Scattorshot, Hun-Grrr, and Razorclaw.
This mold was also used to make Legends Class Classics Jetfire and 2008's Universe Starscream.

  • Superion (Multi-pack, 2008)
    • Series: G1 Series
Available only as a component of Universe Superion, this version of Silverbolt is a white and black redeco of Energon Storm Jet, transforming into a futuristic supersonic jet similar to an SR-71 Blackbird or Skyquake. As a toy derived from the Energon-series "Powerlinx Combiner"s, he can attach any Energon combiner limbs to the Powerlinx ports located on his arms and legs, though nominally he combines with his fellow Aerialbots to become Superion.
Like the Storm Jet version of the sculpt, Silverbolt features several instances of misassembly: The more obvious one affects his inside legs, which are swapped so that the knee joint faces the wrong way. Although a swap (involving tiny pieces and springs) fixes this, at least a few specimens reportedly had one leg assembled correctly, and the other one incorrectly, making repair impossible. Furthermore, his shoulders are also misassembled, since there is a sculpted chevron...in his armpit. A fix for this requires removing metal pins, which is at least easier than on the original Storm Jet version of the sculpt, since Silverbolt's pins have the ridged section on one end, rather than in the center.
The Superion five-pack, despite being initially intended as a Universe Target exclusive, was only released in Universe packaging in some non-American markets such as Australia and Singapore. Instead, American Target stores (and Zellers stores in Canada) received an unchanged version of the toy in Revenge of the Fallen packaging, still named Superion, with all the individual components, including Silverbolt, retaining their names as well.

  • Silverbolt (Scout, 2013)
    • Pieces: 39
Part of Wave 3 of Construct-Bots Scouts, Silverbolt can transform into a jet. All of his parts are from Construct-Bots Shockwave, minus his head which is a retool of Construct-Bots Wheeljack's head (which has a friendly grin molded in between his battle mask segments). Unlike Shockwave, he does not feature any cannon parts but instead comes with an opaque blue recolor of the sword included with Ultimate Optimus Prime.

Combiner Wars

(thumbnail)
...nope, obviously not.
  • Silverbolt (Voyager Class, 2015)
    • 3 OF 5: Superion
    • Accessories: rifle/shield
Released as part of the Combiner Wars subline, Generations Silverbolt transforms from a jet resembling a modified Concorde to a robot resembling his original form. He can combine with the Deluxe Class Alpha Bravo (or Quickslinger), Skydive, Firefly, and Air Raid to form Superion. Silverbolt includes a collector card featuring art from the "Nemesis Rising" episode of Transformers Legends.
Silverbolt includes a larger-scale version of the original toy's rifle, which can be held in Silverbolt's or Superion's hands, or mounted to the sides of Silverbolt's forearm or underneath his nosecone in jet mode. The winged rear section of the rifle can be detached and used by Silverbolt as a shield, which can also be separately either held in Silverbolt's hand or mounted to the side of his forearm. Due to the way the head of Superion flips out, as well as the thinness of the plastic making up that joint, it is easy to push the wrong area when folding the head back into the body. This may cause stress lines and fractures if not properly addressed, and in the worst-case scenario Superion's head can simply snap off. On the bright side, it's still possible to secure Superion's head inside Silverbolt's torso, and the combined mode's chest clamps can still hold the head in place for the combined mode.
Silverbolt can also form the torso of Combiner Wars Magnaboss. A sticker sheet was sold at BotCon 2016 to enhance Silverbolt's resemblance to the original Beast Wars figure.
Oddly, the hand-painted prototype on display at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 featured some coloring and detailing differences with the final product that are unique to that one sample. Even the hand painted prototype used for early stock photos is closer to the final figure. Notably, Silverbolt's shoulders (which become Superion's hips) were painted red, with the trapezoid sections in the center painted silver.
Though Silverbolt's wave was scheduled for a first quarter 2015 release, it arrived on U.S. store shelves in late 2014.
As a part of the first and second wave promotion in Hasbro's Asian markets, a free sticker sheet for the Aerialbots and Stunticons was given out when purchasing any four Deluxe Class toys from those waves. As such, Silverbolt was given Generation 1 toy-esque stickers for the owner to apply if they wanted.[2]
This mold was retooled into Combiner Wars Cyclonus and Scattershot, and BotCon 2016 General Sea Clamp. Despite sharing the same toy designer and transformation scheme, Power of the Primes Hun-Gurrr is not a retool of Combiner Wars Silverbolt.

My head is fine in the clouds. It's just the combiner head you need to worry about!
  • Superion (Collection Pack, 2016)
    • Accessories: Rifle, individual Aerialbots guns/fists/feet
A G2-themed redeco of Combiner Wars Silverbolt was packed along with the other Aerialbots (including Powerglide), and sold as a giftset.
Most copies of this Silverbolt did not use the retooled and improved combiner head's joint, so care must be taken while transforming him into torso mode. At least one copy with the retooled and improved combiner head's joint does exist.
The Superion "Collection Pack" was (at least in theory) a "shared exclusive" between various online retailers (such as Hasbro Toy Shop, Amazon, BigBadToyStore, and Entertainment Earth) and the online storefronts of major "big box" retailers (such as Toys"R"Us, Walmart, Target, and Kmart). It was still available at general retail in Hasbro's Asian markets, though.

Unite Warriors

TF-Unite-Warriors-UW01-Silverbolt.jpg
Takara's Unite Warriors iteration of Superion features a redeco of Silverbolt with a more cartoon-accurate deco, which includes replacing the orange colors of the Hasbro release with a more golden yellow color. Strangely, this does not include replacing the cream-white color of the Combiner Wars release with the cartoon's grayish-white color. Due to the abundance of paint used in the deco, the Takara release features much tighter joints, which in some cases can prove inhibitive for articulation.
As with the Hasbro releases, this Silverbolt does not use the retooled and improved joint for the Combiner head. Unfortunately, the 2019 re-release did not fix this issue.

Titans Return

  • Blunderbuss & Broadside (Voyager Class, 2017)
Titans Return Broadside comes with tiny Aerialbot jets (specifically in the alternate modes of their Combiner Wars figures) molded on a sprue; once cut off this sprue, the jets can be attached to his carrier and robot mode ports.
  • Siege on Cybertron (gift set, 2017)
This set includes Tidal Wave, a redeco of Broadside with a new head, who includes the sprue of mini Aerialbot jets previously included with Broadside, now painted black. It's unknown if those jets are supposed to represent evil versions of the Aerialbots or something else.

Legends

The Legends release of Broadside also includes a plastic sprue with five Airbot miniatures, though now cast in a different shade of gray to match Broadside's cartoon-accurate appearance, and unpainted, unlike the Hasbro release.

Merchandise

Transformers Gum

Essentially a downsized version of the original Silverbolt toy, the Transformers Gum kit is sculpted from black, red and grey plastic, features stickers rather than paint applications for details, and came with a stick of gum.

    • Wave 2: Rise of the Combiners
    • Rarity: 2019
    • Card Number: T38/T46
    • Stars: 5
"Silverbolt, Aerialbot Leader" was released as part of the Transformers Trading Card Game Wave 2: Rise of the Combiners. Like all other members of combiner teams released in the set, "Silverbolt, Aerialbot Leader" is a folding card, with the Bot and Alt modes being depicted when the card is folded in half, and a holofoil portion of the the combined mode depicted when unfolded. The reverse of "Silverbolt, Aerialbot Leader" depicts Superion's head and torso, which (as usual) is formed by Silverbolt in the artwork.
The artwork for Bot Mode is reused from the Combiner Wars Silverbolt toys' packaging art, and is based on said figure.
"Silverbolt, Aerialbot Leader" can be used to form "Superion, Sky Protector" with the use of the Action card Aerialbot Enigma while he and the other Wave 2 Aerialbots are in Bot mode on the battlefield or KO area.

Notes

(thumbnail)
Sometimes Silverbolt just wants to naked it up.
(thumbnail)
This is the most hardcore Silverbolt has ever been.
  • Silverbolt's character model and package art is based on the toy with what is often misunderstood to be Superion's chest plate attached. Unlike most of the other Generation 1 combiners, the chest plate piece was also intended to be a part of Silverbolt's robot mode and actually features a molded crotch-guard on it, complete with designated sticker details—all of which get covered up with a completely separate crotch-guard piece for Superion. Despite this, the toy's instructions and the back-of-the-box art presents Silverbolt with his flat, detailless ramp torso. Silverbolt's Dreamwave profile art also depicts him without the chest plate, despite the comics themselves featuring it, likely due to the artist being under the mistaken impression that the chest plate wasn't intended for him.
  • Due to the size of his original toy's alternate mode, in that form he should be one of the biggest Transformers around (approximately 164 feet, 5 inches tall!). This means he's one of the most out-of-scale Generation 1 characters, both as a toy and in all of his depictions in fiction.
  • Beast Wars Sourcebook depicts Silverbolt with the eagle head for his robot mode head.
  • A proposed Fun Publications BotCon exclusive idea was a redeco of Universe Silverbolt into Skyquake/Scrash and King Atlas.[3]
