I did (and still do) think that the nature of emery and kaiden’s relationship was a bit strange - given that they are quite literally step-siblings, and even acknowledge this themselves, and sometimes the writing came across as a little juvenile, but overall i liked it. i will be thinking about the ending for a while yet 🥺.

ance at love for a couple destined to be together after a secret revealed.

Proposals mark a special moment for couples ready for the next stage in their relationship. For Raine, this stage was one to be feared as she rejects her long-time boyfriends' proposal.
Caleb attempts to move on and deal with his father's cancer diagnosis. As his father's health declines, Caleb takes on more responsibility with running the hardware store and college. Raine's arrival to town brings many feelings to the surface making them wonder if a second chance is possible. This book stung a little. I felt like this was my story my freshman year. After years of therapy, I'm as healed as I can be but that first year after it happened, I almost drove myself crazy because everyone was a suspect because, like Skylar, my recollection was fuzzy. It saddens me how often this happens.

I loved that she had Olive and Danny. I did wish that there had been more of a definitive outcome. I know that's silly because so often there isn't one. There wasn't one in my case so I wanted Skylar to have one instead.

The author did a great job at depicting freshman life, freedom, parties, and the unfortunate consequences of having something taken (and the guilt associated with that) as well as the viciousness of mean girls.
